[Pamela Pugh for Congress]( {NAME}, please read this entire email if you have time to, because I am guessing you feel the same way I do after watching last nightâs debate: FRUSTRATED. So, if you enjoyed that debate. Please stop reading this email. Please, donât donate to my campaign. If you enjoyed that spectacle, youâre not going to like my platform, what I stand for, or be interested in electing a history-making candidate to Congress like me. [But if you were disgusted by what you saw on stage last night, will you contribute right now to make sure our multi-cultural, pro-ceasefire, pro-peace campaign is ready and willing to fight back with everything in our arsenal to elect another pro-ceasefire member of Congress who will advocate for more âBlack (and brown) Jobsâ in an open, toss-up seat?]( If you've been following our campaign, you already know: Iâm Dr. Pamela Pugh â a scientist, statewide elected official, public health expert, and advocate for education, the environment, and for folks in my community here in Saginaw, Michigan, and the City of Flint. In our pivotal Democratic congressional primary coming up in a few weeks on August 6th, I stand alone as the sole advocate speaking out on one of this election's defining issues: the genocide in Gaza. I will hold the moral center with my multicultural pro-justice coalition. With history's pendulum swinging precariously, our district â which has been pivotal in the outcome since of the last three presidential elections â will have the final say in Michigan and Americaâs destiny. Yet, as I tuned into the spectacle of the presidential debates last night, my hopes for a strong performance from President Biden collided with disappointment. In the immortal words of Kendrick Lamar, all I could think while I was suffering through Bidenâs subpar performance and Trumpâs constant torrent of lies was⦠they not like us. Those candidates up on stage do not represent me, or my campaignâs values (although it goes without saying Iâm a whole lot closer to President Bidenâs value system than Trumpâs). What unfolded before my eyes was not a dignified forum of statesmanship but a lurid spectacle of reality TV theatrics infused with dog-whistle politics, brazen falsehoods paraded as truth, and a callous disregard for Black, Brown, and Palestinian lives both here at home and abroad in Gaza. As if referring to menial work as Black and Hispanic jobs wasnât enough, I was dismayed, {NAME}. When Donald Trump âinsultedâ President Biden by calling him âa bad Palestinian.â I almost turned my TV off right then and there. It was really disheartening to see the leader of the MAGA party co-opt a peopleâs identity â who are suffering from an ongoing genocide â as a slur to attack his political opponent. The repetitive dog whistles intended to pit marginalized groups against one another were also disgusting. Americans deserve better, Michiganders deserve better, and my future constituents deserve better. Iâm running for Congress for everyone who was disgusted by what they saw on stage last night. Iâm running as part of a pro-peace, pro-justice, and pro-economic dignity coalition of Black and brown candidates who are fed up with the status quo. [If you agree, please pitch in to fund our insurgent, pro-peace, pro-justice pro-economic dignity campaign in this open primary election. We have a huge end-of-quarter goal at midnight on Sunday, and we need to raise another $11,500 to hit our mark and stay competitive against our establishment-funded, AIPAC-aligned opponent.]( Leading with justice, fairness, and peace, Dr. Pamela Pugh --------------------------------------------------------------- Iâm Dr. Pamela Pugh, and Iâm a Saginaw native running for Congress in Michigan's 8th District. I've spent my career fighting to improve the lives of Michigan residents through public health initiatives, and as the Chief Public Health Advisor for Flint I played a pivotal role in standing alongside Flint residents during the water crisis. As a public servant, I currently serve as the President of the Michigan State Board of Education, a statewide elected position. I believe in standing up for the people and fighting for our democracy, our children, and our future. I've lived in Michigan's 8th District for my entire life and it will be the honor of a lifetime to represent my community in the House of Representatives. I'm relying on grassroots contributions to fuel my campaign to victory â [so please chip in what you can right now!]( Our email list is an important tool for us to reach Democrats and activists in Michigan and around the country.
