Notably, his performance was widely panned by prominent liberal talking heads, from Joy Reid to Joe Scarborough (who happens to be the one cable host the president loves to watch.) It begs the question: are Democrats just that incompetent that they would let Joe debate so early in the campaign, or was it a calculated first step in a plot to replace him with a more viable candidate, say, one who's not senile? In this Week’s Newsletter … - Real Big News: Was the debate a coup against Joe? - Hot Off The Press: SCOTUS guts gov't - For The Record: The post-debate 'panic' Everything we do is made possible by our faithful subscribers. If you love reading the Daily Caller, [please consider joining us today.]( [JOIN US!]( REAL BIG NEWS Biden Face Plants At Debate As Democrats Openly Float Replacement [Seven minutes]( into the debate, Biden's performance quickly turned into a complete dumpster fire. As Trump mustered solid attacks against a confused-looking president, Democratic operatives were already starting to smash the panic button early in the night. The Daily Caller White House Correspondent Reagan Reese has more details on the first flurry of reactions: It took all of thirty minutes for Democrats to begin pontificating about replacing President Joe Biden on the ballot in November during Thursday night’s presidential debate. Months before they were expected to, Biden and former President Donald Trump met under unique circumstances. CNN’s Dana Bash and Jake Tapper moderated the faceoff in a studio, with no live audience, commercial breaks and mic cuts. Though Biden stayed out of the public eye for a week in order to prep, the 81-year-old’s age was on full display as he failed to provoke a rather controlled former Trump. “Every Democrat I know is texting that this is bad,” Obama campaign alumnus Ravi Gupta tweeted just 15 minutes into the debate. “Just say it publicly and begin the hard work of creating space in the convention for a selection process. I’ll vote for a corpse over Trump, but this is a suicide mission,” Gupta continued. Thirty minutes into the debate, the New York Times [published]( an op-ed about the “high anxiety” its deputy opinion editor was hearing from senior Democrats. The piece characterized his performance as a “disaster.” “I love Joe Biden, he didn’t do well at all,” Van Jones, a former adviser to President Barack Obama, said during a solemn CNN post-debate show. “We are still far from our convention and there is still time to figure out a different way forward if he will allow us to do that,” Jones added. Here's Reese with some [reporting]( on Biden World's furious reaction to the debate: People within President Joe Biden's orbit are furious with how his closest advisors set him up for a presidential debate against former President Donald Trump that quickly spun into a disaster, sources told Axios. Just 30 minutes into Thursday's presidential debate, Democrats descended into panic over Biden's performance as he often stood with his mouth agape, appeared to freeze up and tripped over his words. As Democrats called for Biden to drop out of the presidential debate, some within Biden's inner circle began pointing the finger at how the president was prepped as the reason for his performance, Axios reported. "He was over-prepared and relying on minutiae when all that mattered was vigor and energy," one person in Biden's orbit told Axios. "They prepared him for the wrong debate. He was over-prepared when what he needed was rest. It's confounding." "It's sad but it also makes me so mad to think of all the smart people lying and trying to make this work," a former White House official told Axios. Ahead of the debate, Biden spent a week out of the public eye at Camp David preparing and running through mock debates. At Camp David, a mock stage was set up with lecterns to mimic what CNN would have set up, the New York Times reported. Aides also trained Biden to "trigger" Trump by bringing up topics like his criminal conviction and the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Riot, NBC reported. "It was a really disappointing debate performance from Joe Biden," Biden's former White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield said on CNN, according to Axios. Another former White House official told Axios that people should be fired over Biden's debate performance but that it was unlikely "because Biden rarely dismisses people." HOT OFF THE PRESS SCOTUS Guts Bureaucracy: In a massively consequential decision, the U.S. Supreme Court [overturned]( a decades-old precedent that expanded the power of the administrative state by ruling in favor of small fishing companies and their lawsuits against the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). SCOTUS reversed the landmark case Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council, which gave federal agencies across the federal government the ability to interpret ambiguous laws through rulemaking. The ruling amounts to a huge win for all Americans and business owners concerned about the administrative state's regulatory power. Biden Botches Afghanistan Withdrawal ... Again: Biden made a [crucial error]( by being the first candidate to bring up the botched Afghanistan withdrawal in August of 2021. He then went on to lie about American soldiers killed under his administration, digging himself into an even deeper hole by failing to mention the thirteen service members who died during the withdrawal. “When he was president, they were still killing people in Afghanistan, and he didn’t do anything about that,” Biden said of Trump. “When he was president, we still found ourselves in a position where you had a notion that we were the safe country. The truth is, I’m the only president [in] this century, that doesn’t have any — this decade — that doesn’t have any troops dying anywhere in the world.” Time For The 25th? Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy [said]( Friday that he plans to introduce a resolution geared toward removing Biden from office following a disastrous presidential debate. Roy explained that his 25th Amendment resolution would mobilize Biden's cabinet officials to formally declare that the president is incapable of fulfilling his official duties. The Texas lawmaker says he plans to invoke section four, which empowers the vice president and majority of cabinet officials to effectively pronounce the president unfit to continue and replace Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris. TRENDING Watch the exchange [here](. FOR THE RECORD NYT Trashes Biden Debate: You know it's bad when you lose the Gray Lady. The Times [published]( headlines Friday morning calling on the president to step down from the 2024 race, with twelve writers ranking the candidates' performances. All twelve came to the overall conclusion that Trump left the debate victorious. One of those twelve writers, John Barro, said Biden "failed at his key task" by proving to voters he is still fit to serve a second term. Most of the writers, including David French, said Trump won the debate by a landslide. "It was a debacle for Biden," Times opinion writer Lydia Polgreen said. "He was barely audible at times. He flubbed answers on his strongest issues, from abortion to democracy." Yikes. The 'Morning' After ... The "Morning Joe" crew had a lot to say about Biden's debacle Friday morning. Co-host Mika Brzezinski [said]( there was “no way to spin” Biden’s performance against former President Donald Trump, saying Biden’s entrance led her to think “something was wrong.” Meanwhile, her husband, co-host Joe Scarborough, [got brutally honest]( and appeared to be pleading with Biden directly (N.B., "Morning Joe" is the president's favorite show to watch). “Is it time for him to step down?” Scarborough asked of Biden. “And that’s a question, that window is not completely closed ... You are not hurting the cause of America by asking these tough questions now. You are hurting the cause of America by closing your eyes, putting your head down, saying we’re going to just plow forward regardless of what we saw.” GET MEME'D Leave a comment [here]( BECOME A SUBSCRIBER TODAY!
