One of the left's most reviled political targets, a former lawyer for President Donald Trump named [John Eastman]( is facing a hellish censorship campaign from corporate America that appears bent on crippling his finances. Eastman was "de-banked" by two major financial institutions with no warning, yet another chilling sign that Biden's America is hurtling toward a third-world level Banana Republic. Read the Daily Caller's exclusive story below. In this Week’s Newsletter … - Real Big News: John Eastman speaks out after de-banking - Hot Off The Press: Mike Johnson breaks from GOP base - For The Record: More scandals rock woke NPR Everything we do is made possible by our faithful subscribers. If you love reading the Daily Caller, [please consider joining us today.]( [JOIN US!]( REAL BIG NEWS Exclusive: Ex-Trump Lawyer Speaks Out Amid De-Banking Censorship Campaign The Daily Caller's Reagan Reese [obtained an exclusive audio recording]( of Eastman's call to Bank of America, one of the two financial institutions that have targeted him for his representation of Donald Trump post-January 6 when he argued that then-VP Mike Pence had the power to help Trump deliver the 2020 election. According to the audio clip, the bank appears to stonewall Eastman after he inquires why the institution had closed down his accounts. It is truly a Kafkaesque scenario. John Eastman, a former attorney for former President Donald Trump, was de-banked twice in the span of several months by two prominent financial institutions, Bank of America and USAA, he told the Daily Caller. [USAA]( is a company that provides banking and insurance exclusively to military and veterans as well as their families. Bank of America alerted Eastman in September of 2023 that it would be closing his accounts, a letter obtained by the Daily Caller shows. Shortly thereafter, USAA notified Eastman in November that his two bank accounts with the company would be closed, a separate letter shows. “And then two months later, we get a similar letter from USAA saying that they've decided that they're going to close your account and they did like three weeks later," Eastman told the Daily Caller. "And so that was where all of our automatic payments were coming out of, all our automatic deposits. So it was a real pain to shift everything. We had to get a new bank account opened and shift everything over.” Eastman was notified of his USAA accounts being closed on Nov. 20, 2023. A few weeks prior, a California judge made a preliminary decision saying that Eastman was culpable of ethics violations in a state bar disciplinary case, CNN [reported](. USAA claimed in its letter that it was “exercising its right to no longer do banking business" with Eastman per its "Depository Agreement.” "We may close your account for any reason without advance notice. We may require you to give us a minimum of seven (7) calendar days advance written notice when you intend to close your account by withdrawing your funds," a [section]( of the Depository Agreement reads. When Eastman inquired about the closures, the banks said it was their policy to not provide any more information on the matter, he told the Daily Caller. An audio recording of Eastman's call to Bank of America, provided to the Daily Caller, reflects as much. "What these banks are doing is they're saying you're either high risk, or we don't want to do business with you, or whatever it is. There's no methodology behind this. There's no kind of reason that matches traditional indicators or traditional metrics that a bank would use to calculate your liquidity, your credit score, whatever it is. They're using these non financial factors, and then making these decisions and just like closing people's accounts," Eric Bledsoe, an expert on de-banking for the Foundation for Government Accountability, told the Daily Caller. HOT OFF THE PRESS Johnson Shifts Away From Promises: Is Speaker Mike Johnson [breaking away from the GOP base]( Johnson is certainly shifting his position on additional aid to Ukraine after he appeared to cast aside his initial request that border security funding be included in the package. House Republican leadership introduced a bill packaging roughly $61 billion for Ukraine aid, $26 billion for Israel aid and $8 billion for Indo-Pacific aid on Wednesday, and is set to release an independent border security bill to be voted on separately. However, Johnson previously appeared to support additional Ukraine aid only if it was tied to some sort of a border security package. Republican FISA-Abuse Enablers: The Daily Caller's Reagan Reese and Henry Rodgers [expose]( the House Republicans who are enabling the abuse of the national security state on the American people: After former President Donald Trump called for Congress to "kill" an extension of FISA, some supporters still voted for a reauthorization, and failed to explain to the Daily Caller why they chose to do so. The House of Representatives moved to renew a 2-year reauthorization bill of FISA without a warrant requirement in a 273-147 vote on April 12. Though Trump and his supporters have previously blamed Section 702 of FISA for spying on his presidential campaign, several House Republicans voted for the 2-year reauthorization bill. Among those, West Virginia Rep. Carol Miller, Pennsylvania Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, Tennessee Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, Alabama Rep. Gary Palmer, North Carolina Rep. Greg Murphy, New York Rep. Elise Stefanik and Florida Rep. Mike Waltz did not respond to the Caller's multiple email requests for an explanation on their vote. Romney Rips Mayorkas: DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas refused to say on Thursday whether he lied under oath about the security of the U.S. border, dodging questions from Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah. The Senate on Wednesday [dismissed]( two articles of [impeachment]( against the Biden official. “The [House of Representatives] said that you lied when you said to the House in a hearing that the border was secure,” Romney pressed. “Why did you say the border was secure? Was it a lie?” Mayorkas responded, “Senator Romey, allow me to assure you that I have honored the oath of office that I have taken more than five times in my 22-plus years of federal service.” TRENDING What's your take on this? FOR THE RECORD NPR Whistleblower Chased Out: The veteran National Public Radio editor who exposed left-wing bias at the taxpayer-funded outlet [announced his resignation]( Wednesday just one day after he was suspended without pay for his exposé. “I am resigning from NPR, a great American institution where I have worked for 25 years,” Uri Berliner said in his resignation letter. “I don’t support calls to defund NPR. I respect the integrity of my colleagues and wish for NPR to thrive and do important journalism.” New NPR CEO Exposed: NPR's new CEO Katherine Maher [said]( in a resurfaced 2022 TED Talk that seeking "truth" could impede progress and unity. She has also come [under fire]( for resurfaced tweets in which she expressed support for President Joe Biden’s campaign in 2020, as well as called former President Donald Trump “racist” in 2018. "Perhaps for our most tricky disagreements, seeking the truth and seeking to convince others of the truth might not be the right place to start," Maher said during the TED Talk. "In fact, our reverence for the truth might be a distraction that's getting in the way of finding common ground and getting things done."
