It was an exciting weekend for high school sports in Rhode Island. Catch up on everything that happened. [providencejournal.com]( [Daily Briefing]( Monday, November 14 [click here]( [Exclusive eNewspaper: Read today's newspaper online, and access hundreds of newspapers across the USA TODAY Network.]( [click here]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond. It was a wild weekend these past couple of days and I'm not referring to the weather. Fall high school championships were at the forefront with division championship games being played in boys and girls soccer and girls volleyball, along with semifinal action in football. It makes for a hectic weekend for the sports staff here at The Journal who were on top of all the games along with an assist from Newport Daily News sports reporter Steve Rogers. To catch up on all the action [click here](. [Jeffrey Burns, South Kingstown boys soccer] Jeffrey Burns, South Kingstown boys soccer Eric Rueb / The Providence Journal High school sports are a great opportunity for the state's teenagers. An opportunity to not only learn how to handle winning and losing, but also how to work together for a goal that's greater than the name on the back of the jersey. Representing your hometown is a big responsibility and while everyone wants to win, handling the outcome with grace and appreciation for the opponent is a lesson that will go beyond the playing field. So while I'll give a specific shout-out to my alma mater South Kingstown for defeating North Kingstown in the Division I boys soccer championship, I congratulate everyone that competed this weekend and in the quickly concluding fall season. Some of these athletes may be stepping off the field for the last time. Others are looking forward to the opportunities ahead. Either way there's a lot ahead for these kids and they should be cheered on regardless of the scoreboard. That said winning is pretty sweet.
