[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at [The Providence Journal]( and this is the Daily Briefing. I like to cook. Most dinners in my house are made by me. I've been known to try new things or jazz up an old standby, even if my family isn't sure they will like the outcome. (For the record, they usually do.) But I'm always happy to dine out in Rhode Island. We have our standbys, such as Vanda in Warwick, Matunuck Oyster Day in South Kingstown and my favorite pizza place, Catanzaro's in Cranston. Rhe past couple of weeks has brought trips to places we haven't been before, including Massimo on Federal Hill and Scotti's Salumeria on the Warwick. I know we all have our favorites and the great thing about Rhode Island is that dining here is a great adventure. But what makes that happen? This week, we've been publishing stories from our upcoming dining guide. I've teased some as they've come out each morning, but today Journal food and dining editor Gail Ciampa dishes on why Rhode Island's dining scene is as impressive as just about anything you can find in the U.S. Trust me, Gail would know, she's eaten in places from Westerly to Tiverton and is always ready with a recommendation. [Downtown Providence with the Superman Building seen through an array of wine glasses at Hemenway's] Downtown Providence's Superman Building is seen through an array of wine glasses at Hemenway's, one of the city's iconic restaurants. The recently completed beach season had one of the fewest days of closures in recent years, but what does that mean about water quality around the state? [The Journal's Alex Kuffner finds out.]( • Is Hasbro headed out of state? Before they make any moves, The Journal's Mark Patinkin says the state should learn from its own history and ensure it doesn't make the same mistakes. • Could the U.S. Naval War College in Newport be undergoing a large-scale renovation? [The Journal and Newport Daily News' Savana Dunning has the details of what's being discussed.]( • One week was all it took to turn the RIIL high school football landscape upside down.
