Before heading out in the open waters as you travel from Point Judith to Block Island there is first the Harbor of Refuge to pass by. Two million tons of stone put in place over 100 years ago to protect the shore and boats that find safe harbor. But like anything close to – or in this case in – the water damage is sure to come. The rocks have taken the pounding they're intended to absorb but some sections have given up. The waves winning the century-old battle. With sections of the more than 2 miles of wall now tossed into the ocean below some are calling for the breakwaters to be repaired.
