God love this job, but some days it makes me feel pretty old. Today's one of those days. How can it be that the [Providence Place mall is 25 years old]( The first time I visited the mall, I was a brand spanking newlywed. My husband and I had received some gift certificates as wedding gifts and what better place to spend them than at the shiny new mall in Providence? When I walk through the mall now, it doesn't seem all that different, but this could just be my mind playing tricks on me. That first shopping trip seems like yesterday, but simultaneously like 100 years ago − my husband and I have lived so much life since then. (And thankfully our marriage lasted longer than the cookware set we purchased that day!) Truth be told, the Providence Place story that sticks out most in my mind is the day I thought my car had been stolen. I had just run a race in the city. I parked in the mall garage early that morning and took only my car key with me (tucked safely in a running belt). I didn't want my phone or my wallet weighing me down. I thought I remembered where I parked. After the race, my spectator husband, who had come in his own car, left and I went to get my car. Folks, I'm not a good runner and I was likely half-delirious, but I swear I looked everywhere for that stupid car. I could NOT find it. And I had no way of contacting my husband, or anyone else for that matter – and I had no money and no identification on me. I also looked a mess – sweaty, smelly, hair all tangled and drippy – who would want to help me? I wandered out to the sidewalk, trying to devise a plan. By some miracle, my husband drove by just at that second. As soon as I got into the car, I burst into tears and told him my car had been stolen. Thankfully he's the level-headed one. We went back into the garage and he pressed the key fob which made my car honk. We followed the honk and found the car on one of those in-between half-levels (if you know, you know!). I still love the mall. And the garage. No hard feelings. Reporter Paul Edward Parker got to spend a full day at the mall recently. Check out [his story]( for some truly interesting facts.
