Herbeth Cortez Gaitan waited 16 years for his asylum application to be processed and then rejected. He was deported but a federal court found that immigration courts ruled incorrectly in his case. He waited two more years to be able to return to the US from Guatemala. “It’s the type of pain that can kill a person, little by little, if you don’t put yourself in God's hands," he says.
