Apple is [reportedly making a major change to iOS]( next year that will give consumers more choices when it comes to deciding where they want to download their apps. Why does it matter? According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to let users install alternative app stores on their iOS devices. This capability might only be available in Europe, to comply with upcoming EU rules, and the company might only allow the installation of approved apps. What's my take? If Apple were to allow sideloading of a different app store, it would be a significant change of direction for the company. The iPhone has always been heavily locked down when it comes to software. Although this might only be to comply with EU rules, I think this will likely be the move that gaming services are after - allowing things like Epic Games Store to be installed, providing an alternative route to games. Exactly how Apple will deal with its notorious 30 per cent billing remains to be seen - and there will be concerns about security. But, the offshoot might be that those on Android who dismissed Apple because of a lack of freedom, might take a second to reconsider the changing app landscape.  Tesla's 'Holiday' update adds Steam games and Apple Music TESLA What's happened? Tesla is rolling out a "Holiday Update" that adds a few long-promised features, including [the ability to play Steam games]( in your car and support for Apple Music. Why does it matter? Tesla owners now have access to "thousands" of more games, such as Cyberpunk 2077. Steam will be available on "new" Model S and X vehicles. What's my take? Tesla has long been packing fun software features into its cars. It's one of the things that makes it stand out from traditional car manufacturers and brings a sense of fun. The ability to play Steam games will take a lot of headlines, as will some of the other features, but car drivers still bemoan the lack of support for systems like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while criticising the fact you have to do just about everything on a Tesla through the screen - and that involves a lot of tapping. Still, this update means your Tesla Model S or X is the biggest gaming machine around, meaning more fun when you're sitting on that Supercharger.  A MESSAGE FROM OUR SPONSOR How to buy the perfect Christmas Gift for your loved ones - The best assistant for driving ANDOBIL With Christmas right around the corner, it’s time to look for presents for your loved ones. If it looks like Dead Space and sounds like Dead Space, but isn't called Dead Space, what do you have? The Callisto Protocol, as it turns out. Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield is back and he's staying firmly in his lane with another third-person space horror game, but we can't help but feel that The Callisto Protocol could have done with a more forward-looking approach on the gameplay side of things. Our quick verdict It has some interesting moments, and looks extremely impressive, but The Callisto Protocol feels like it can neither match the best of the Dead Space series nor up it in terms of spectacle or fear, leaving it at a bit of a loose end.
