Get them to [sign up here.]( Google will start testing AR glasses outdoors in public this autumn Google What's happened? Google has [announced]( it will test augmented reality (AR) prototypes in public starting in September Why does it matter? Google wants to see how they work in the real world and impact people - and also because it needs to better understand how its AR navigation features will handle the weather. What's my take? Google's last stab at "smart glasses" resulted in the Google Glass and the rise of the eponymous Glassholes. It already has a lot of tech that will flow into future AR glasses: Google Assistant is widely used, Google Maps AR navigation already exists - as does real-time translation. The challenge is making the break from a smartphone into a new format and making sure it's not intrusive - while avoiding those concerns that came with Google Glass - that the wearer might be taking photos of you. Simplicity is key. AR skills in sunglasses that can give you translation in front of your eyes and navigate you when in foreign countries have immediate appeal - but they need to be design-focused, not overload you with information. Oh, and they need to be affordable, too. Netflix's ad-supported offering might omit some shows FREESTOCKS/UNSPLASH What's happened? Netflix has suggested its [upcoming ad-supported plan]( won't have all the same movies and shows you can currently watch on the ad-free streaming service. Why does it matter? Netflix has lost over one million subscribers between April and July and it needs to stop the slide. What's my take? Netflix is synonymous with streaming, but it's currently one of the most expensive and it's haemorrhaging subscribers, so something has to be done. Launching an ad-free tier could help change the direction of customers - while changing Netflix's business model. That you won't necessarily be able to access all the shows makes sense: it gives Netflix something to sell and the aim, of course, will be to convert ad-supported viewers to full subscription - and granting access to the top shows will be a part of that. But, as we head through a cost of living crisis, giving people the option to reduce outgoings without losing them completely, could be hugely valuable. Autel Evo Lite+ review: Flying towards the throne Pocket-lint What's happened? When it comes to high-quality, consumer-friendly camera drones, the field has been pretty much dominated by DJI since its inception. However, the competition is catching up, and we think some of the best examples of this are the flying machines in Autel Robotics' lineup. Our quick verdict We're impressed with the Evo Lite+ and think Autel has presented the most compelling alternative to DJI to date. However, shortcomings like the bizarre Log colour limitations and poor tracking implementation mean that most people should stick with the tried and true DJI options for now. [Read our review](.
