It all starts with a seed... ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Hey {NAME} - One of the most common things people suffering from Piriformis Syndrome and sciatica believe is that their problem is somehow unique or different from others. That their case is special or complex. And if you’re reading this, and believe that too- it will keep you from taking action and will keep you stuck in pain- I guarantee it. Because the truth is- YOU as a person are unique in your own ways… sure. But your pain experience is not. And I feel confident in saying this after consulting with over 10,000+ people dealing with this problem. Here’s why there’s nothing unique about your case… and here’s the problem with believing so... Let me share this analogy that might help you make sense of this. Just last weekend, my wife, daughter and I attended a home and garden show- here we are: We saw hundreds of different trees, flowers, and vegetables - all kinds of “different” stuff… And there was a lady there… talking about gardening to a bunch of kids. And you know how when you talk to kids, you find ways to cut all the fluff and simplify things to the most fundamental understanding... She did just that. She said something profound… “all of these plants, and trees, and flowers might look different- but they all start with a seed.” She went on to explain, “and then if you give it the right amount of sunlight, water, and good nutrients- it grows into something unique.” Here’s what I heard… You might think these plants are all different… but really they started as the same… and went through the same exact process to achieve the end result. So, is your pain really unique and different… or did it all start with a seed. A touch of pain, that then made you fearful of movement, that then made you move less, which made you more fearful, more in pain, and ultimately led you to where you are now… confused, in pain, and looking for help. Now, some people might take this the wrong way- as dismissive, as lacking compassion or empathy… But the truth is, if you’re a human in pain, you’re dealing with a pain experience- which involves both the brain and the body. And just like every seed follows the same process to grow- the same pain relief process (regardless of what’s going on)- will also help you get out of pain. No matter how different or complex your case might be… the steps for getting out of pain are the same. Now here’s the cool thing about this… there’s no questioning the path to pain relief… it’s proven. And if you follow it- it works very well. There’s no need to re-invent the wheel and come up with something that is entirely unique for your unique case. And you wouldn’t want me to. As much as you believe your case is unique… do you really want it to be unique? Or are you just calling it that because no one has been able to figure out what’s going on? Think about that. Let’s just assume by some small chance that you defy what I’ve just said… that you’ve got some case that’s never before been seen- it’s somehow more different or unique than any other. Well then, you’re in trouble. Because that means that the solution needs to be developed from scratch- from thin air, from not knowing… and how confident do you feel being the guinea pig? So many people want to feel as though their treatment is being individualized to their unique case- when there’s nothing unique about it… People reward doctors who individualize treatment, because every case is unique... Right? But is that really what you want? A doctor who individualizes their treatment for every single patient? Think of it like this… Imagine if every single football game, the head coach of the football team said- "Well, this game's different" and developed an entirely new playbook each and every game… do you think that team would achieve greatness?… do you think they’d make it to the Superbowl? Not a chance. The players would be confused… they’d lack pattern recognition, and the ability to learn from their mistakes… because as soon as they start learning- everything would be switched up on them again. This is why we lack specialists… because we lack process. If we lack process and consistency… and are always changing things up- different approach for everyone- we fail to collect clear and consistent data… about what works, what doesn’t work, etc. And then we wonder why doctors are confused- and can’t seem to figure out a solution to our pain. In my experience, people who believe their case is unique (if you think that), then you will forever be stuck looking for some complicated solution to fulfill upon your belief that your problem is complex (and therefore the solution must be complex). In my experience, the more complicated the problem… the simpler the result. (Adding more complexity to an already complex issues just causes more chaos/confusion...) And if we boil all of this down, it’s very simple: You’re a human. You’re having a pain experience. You’re stuck in a negative feedback loop. It hurts when I move, I become fearful of moving, I move less, I become more fearful, I hurt more… you get stuck. No matter what’s going on, we need to do just a few things... the process is 4 steps long. The same process regardless of if you have a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, arthritis, degeneration, piriformis syndrome, SI Joint pain, sciatica- you name it… you follow the same steps. Just like a plant starts as a seed and follows a predictable process… you can too. And you should… otherwise you’re switching up the playbook, looking for the 'hail mary'- the magic bullet that solves your problem… when if you just followed the process, pain relief would naturally follow. Simple, but not easy. So, the next time you think- my case is different, special, hard, complicated, or unique- ask yourself… "How will this serve me?"
