This tip is not too shab-bee? The Simplest Lighting Tool That Will Improve Your Macro Photography

This tip is not too shab-bee… [Home]( The Simplest Lighting Tool That Will Improve Your Macro Photography (quick tip) Download the [The Essential Guide to Macro Lighting]( today to take mind-blowing macro photographs (but read the tip below first!) –– One of the simplest and most useful attributes of light is its ability to ‘bounce’ off surfaces. As photographers, we can use this characteristic of light to move it and get it exactly where we want it. A plain white piece of paper is a great starting point for this purpose when doing macro photography. Because white is such a good reflector, it serves to bounce natural and artificial light onto a scene where you need it most. If you have used a reflector, then you know that it is not as simple as just holding it up and aiming it at your subject. You must move your reflector around and find the angle that bounces the light where you need it. You will soon find that a very small movement of the reflector will make a very big difference in the light being bounced on your subject. (Note: Today, you can download our new 139-Page Macro Photography eBook, including an exclusive free bonus, [right here]( for a limited time!) The image above shows a macro setup utilizing natural light from a window with a white reflector on the side, and the final result. A few [other considerations]( are the material you are using, how close and strong the light source is to the surface it is being reflected off of and how close that reflected surface is to what you are photographing. These can influence the strength, softness, and even color of the light on your subject. A circular commercial reflector is shown being used in the image below. Setting it up at a slight angle can help bounce some light back up at the shadowed areas of the scene. [📸 139 Step-by-Step Pages on Macro Photography? You can try moving it side to side or up and down to create different effects and observe how it changes or eliminates shadows. How near or far your reflector is from your subject plays a big role in how the light will behave. Positioned closer to your subject, the reflector can eliminate shadows and create a more even distribution of light. You will hear this type of light described as ‘soft.’ Typically, the larger your light source is, the softer the appearance of light on your subject. For [macro photographers]( the best thing about using reflectors is that your reflector does not have to be large to do the job. A legal-sized piece of foamboard or a small, 12-inch, commercial reflector can do what you need it to. The other great benefit is that you do not have to lug around really large items. A small reflector can easily be tucked into a camera bag and pulled out when needed. BONUS: I've got something special for you on the next page...
