Wilson Jr. Foundation was created from the $1.4 billion sale of the Buffalo Bills NFL franchise in 2014 after the death Wilson, the teamâs original owner. With a 20-year expiration date, it has spent or committed more than $1 billion, even as investment returns have added probably another billion to its bottom line. Focusing on the Buffalo and Detroit areas, the foundation has supported nonprofit arts organizations, regional revitalization, early-childhood development programs, and programs for startups, among other projects. David Egner, the foundationâs president, said the foundation tries not to focus on the ticking clock, but it routinely collaborates with other philanthropies and government agencies to try to ensure that its work endures after it is gone.
