Diamond was discovered, all alone, his umbilical cord still attached. The orphan found a new family. [View this email in your browser]( Dear Friend, The adoption groups we support save the lives of animals large and small — including one kitten so tiny, he could fit in the palm of your hand. "The kitten was found in Clovis, N.M., all by himself, his umbilical cord still attached to a placenta, by a kindhearted man who was visiting a rental property," says Erin Nissen, executive director of grant recipient Durango Animal Connection. The man contacted Clovis Pet Rescue, one of Durango Animal Connection's rescue partners, which quickly found a foster home for the newborn. The foster family named him Diamond and bottle-fed him around the clock for two weeks. Then they learned of a cat at a nearby shelter who was nursing kittens Diamond's age. The cat and her five kittens had just been surrendered. Diamond's fosters pulled them from the shelter to see if Mama would accept Diamond into her litter. Within minutes, she decided he was one of hers and began lovingly cleaning and caring for him. Diamond was slow to catch on to nursing, so his foster family continued to bottle-feed him. Soon the family of seven, including Diamond, was transferred from New Mexico to Durango Animal Connection in Colorado. "We were prepared with bottle-feeding supplies and a cozy place for all of them," the group posted on Facebook, "but little Diamond has surprised us and is fully nursing from Mama!" Diamond continued to thrive. Within weeks, he was eating solid food and racing around with his adoptive siblings before falling asleep snuggled up with them all. When they were old enough, Diamond and one of his brothers were adopted by a couple who'd been coming to visit them for weeks. "We know that a full and happy life is ahead of him now!" Nissen says. The Petfinder Foundation supports groups like Durango Animal Connection so they can save more pets like Diamond and his family.
