Merida arrived at the shelter in bad shape. She's now a different dog, inside and out. You won't believe how she looks now. [View this email in your browser]( Dear Friend, Shelters and rescue groups help countless neglected pets transform physically. And often, their emotional transformation is just as dramatic. Merida, who arrived at Hill Country SCPA in Texas as a puppy, became a dramatically different dog, inside and out. She's also a great example of a dog on whom a shelter never gave up. Merida when she arrived at the shelter Merida came to HCSPCA with one of the worst cases of mange staffers had ever seen. She was covered in sores and her skin was cracked, raw, and painful. Thanks to the shelter's dedicated care, she soon healed, and went from shut down, fearful, and afraid of touch to a playful, affectionate puppy. She was quickly adopted. During the healing process However, she was returned after her owners gave her a doggy DNA test and didn't like the results. She was adopted again and returned with the label "dog-aggressive." Luckily, a Petfinder Foundation grant had provided staffers with advanced playgroup training through our partner organization, [Dogs Playing for Life](. Merida with BFF Zeke Merida, they learned, just needed more-controlled introductions to other dogs. She was paired with a similar dog, Zeke, and they hit it off and became instant besties! No longer labeled dog-aggressive, Merida was adopted into her true forever home. "Her adopters let us know they absolutely love her to pieces," says Shelter Manager Tia Schenewerk. "She is a shoe thief, but otherwise settling in perfectly and they already can’t imagine life without her." With her new dad The Petfinder Foundation supports groups like Hill Country SPCA so they never have to give up on a pet in need.
