Ryan was born with the worst knee deformities his vet had ever seen. Your support helped him live pain-free. Last chance for a 2022 tax deduction! [View this email in your browser]( Dear Friend, Adoption groups are overflowing right now, and it's a challenge to take in new animals with costly medical needs. So when Ryan's owners decided to give him up, they faced a lot of "no"s. Ryan had an issue with his knees that caused him to hop around on his back legs. He was in pain, tired easily, and had lost a lot of muscle. FOWA Rescue in New Jersey saw him on Facebook and said "yes." FOWA's vet said Ryan had the worst case of luxating patellas he'd ever seen. The 4-year-old terrier mix needed surgery on both back legs or he risked permanent damage. Our Emergency Medical Grant helped pay for Ryan's surgeries and the physical therapy he needed afterwards to rebuild the muscle he'd lost because of his limited mobility. "Ryan underwent eight sessions of physical therapy," says FOWA Director Carrie Crecca. "Volunteers stepped up to transport him to the appointments twice a week. "It was truly a labor of love within FOWA. Ryan had stolen the hearts of everyone in the organization." In October, FOWA was contacted by a woman interested in adopting Ryan. At a meet-and-greet, she and her husband fell in love with him at first sight! "They knew immediately that they wanted him to be a part of their family," says Crecca. With the final sign-off from the orthopedic surgeon, the couple adopted Ryan in early November. His new family absolutely adores him and sends regular updates on how he's doing. The Petfinder Foundation supports groups like FOWA that make these lifesaving second chances possible.
