The tiny senior was tied to a tree and dumped. Now she goes to work with her mom and is adored by all her coworkers The tiny dog was found tied to a tree. [View this email in your browser]( Dear Friend, It's hard to imagine abandoning any animal, let alone one who is tiny, elderly, and in terrible pain – but that's what someone did to Piper. The 13-year-old Yorkie-schnauzer mix was found tied to a tree in an Arizona park. She was underweight and had ulcers in both eyes and a mouth full of abscesses. The woman who found her tracked down Piper's owner through her microchip. The owner, who lived in Phoenix, was contacted and said they no longer wanted Piper. Piper was taken in by Miss Maggie May's Rescue in Tucson, where she would finally get the veterinary care she needed. For two weeks, she got eye drops every two hours. She had six rotten teeth pulled. Piper was soon happy and healthy – but because her eyes did not produce tears, she would need prescription medicine for the rest of her life. This expense created another hurdle for an already hard-to-adopt senior. So Miss Maggie May's applied for, and received, a Petfinder Foundation grant to cover Piper's medication and adoption fee. In one of her many outfits Meanwhile, Piper's foster mom started bringing her to work at her overnight job. "Piper quickly became the one everyone would seek out to hug, hold, and pet when they were having a bad day," says Miss Maggie May's Director Lea Ann Kelly. "Piper loved this." Soon, when the names of the night shift workers were posted, Piper’s name would be up on the board along with her foster mom’s. Hard at work! "Piper's foster mom kept thinking about how Piper was helping so many people decompress," Kelly says, "and how excited Piper would get when she put on a cute outfit, which meant she was going to work. "She just couldn't take that away from her, so she adopted Piper." Office mascot "Piper just turned 14 but, to look at her, you wouldn't guess that she was that old," Kelly says. "She enjoys life and people. She is always dressed up in a super-cute outfit. "She is the sweetest dog and enjoys her overnight shifts, stopping for breakfast after work, and running errands before heading home. Piper can be found just enjoying the morning and life. No matter where her adventures take her, she makes so many friends." Petfinder Foundation grants help thousands of dogs like Piper go from abandoned to adored every year.
