As a social construct with no biological proof that molded itself into one of the most liberating and impactful cultural phenomena ever, it’s something straight out of a sci-fi novel. We are the Black future; as it’s been said (on t-shirts, graphic carousels, etc), we are our ancestors' futures, we are their wildest dreams. Now that we are firmly planted in the new year, as we think about giving all of this to our future; our future selves, our children, and their children, I want us to really interrogate what that future needs. Bravery, critical thought, and a priority of truth over peace all instantly come to mind. The only way for us to have the future of our dreams is to challenge the shortcomings of our present.
