Another day, another brush with danger for former President Trump. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis isn't messing around, either. He announced on Sunday that the state will launch its own investigation into how a second gunman managed to get within 500 yards of Trump during a golf outing at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. You'd think after the first attempt just two months ago, security would be airtight, but here we are, scratching our heads again. This latest incident involved a man named Ryan Wesley Routh, who allegedly showed up armed with a rifle, a GoPro camera, and two backpacks-like he was gearing up for some twisted mission. According to authorities, Routh managed to shove the muzzle of his rifle through a fence, getting within striking distance before the Secret Service agents spotted him. Once he raised his weapon, agents didn't hesitate-they opened fire. Routh fled the scene in a black Nissan but was quickly caught. Thankfully, Trump was safely escorted to the clubhouse, but the situation was close enough to sound some serious alarms. [pic.twitter.com/7Kupyj1UiS]( - Vince Langman (@LangmanVince) [September 16, 2024]( And get this-it's the second assassination attempt on Trump in just two months. Back in July, a gunman named Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, coming frighteningly close to hitting the former president. One of Crooks' bullets grazed Trump's ear, a near-miss that could've easily turned deadly. The question on everyone's mind: how are these armed individuals getting so close to the man who's still a high-profile target and the GOP's current nominee? DeSantis, echoing the frustrations of many, said, "The people deserve the truth" about how this gunman managed to get within 500 yards of Trump. And he's right-after two attempts in such a short time, something clearly isn't working. Meanwhile, bipartisan lawmakers are already probing the Pennsylvania incident, with U.S. Representatives Mike Kelly and Jason Crow pushing for answers from the Secret Service. The State of Florida will be conducting its own investigation regarding the attempted assassination at Trump International Golf Club. You can bet the investigation into both of these incidents will be under a microscope, and rightly so. Everyone wants to know how these would-be assassins are getting anywhere near Trump and, more importantly, how we can make sure it doesn't happen again.
