Let's be honest, folks-what's been happening with the Secret Service is nothing short of a disaster. It's been almost two months since the first assassination attempt on Donald Trump at that rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and the more we learn, the worse it gets. On July 13, Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old gunman, managed to get on top of an unguarded rooftop less than 200 yards from Trump, armed with a rifle and a clear line of sight. How that roof was left unprotected, especially during a rally for a former president, is mind-boggling. The initial excuse from the Secret Service? That the sloped roof posed too many risks for agents to monitor. Yeah, that went over about as well as you'd expect-it's no surprise the explanation was met with laughter and outrage. In fact, this embarrassing response was one of the last official statements made by then-Secret Service Director Kimberley Cheatle before Congress grilled her, and she ultimately resigned. Fast forward to today, and Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) is warning the nation to brace for a bombshell report detailing the catastrophic security failures that allowed Crooks to get so dangerously close to Trump. According to Blumenthal, when the report drops, the American people are going to be "shocked, astonished, and appalled" at how the Secret Service dropped the ball. And that's not all-Blumenthal also slammed the Department of Homeland Security for failing to provide transparency or own up to the situation. Every agency involved seems to be playing defense instead of admitting their mistakes. ??Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), says forthcoming report on Trump assassination attempt "will absolutely shock the American people." "I think the American people are going to be shocked, astonished & appalled by what we will report to them about the failures by the Secret... [pic.twitter.com/fvyBU6UZMt]( - Breaking911 (@Breaking911) [September 12, 2024]( Here's the kicker: the Secret Service initially denied that Trump's protection detail was short on resources. But as it turns out, they were forced to come clean later-yes, resources had been denied. Acting Director Ronald Rowe is now at the center of the storm, trying to manage this mess. And for once, it's not just one side of the aisle calling them out-both Democrats and Republicans are united in condemning the Secret Service's failure. The incompetence on display is hard to ignore. Reports confirm that many of the agents tasked with protecting Trump that day were DHS staff who had gone through a mere webinar on threat assessment. Let that sink in-a webinar. To make matters worse, some of the agents didn't even get the full training due to audio issues during the presentation. It's hard to believe this is the level of preparedness for protecting a former president. This isn't the first time the Secret Service has been under fire for security lapses. Earlier this year, a random drunk guy waltzed right into the home of National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, bypassing his protective detail like it was nothing. So, the cracks in the system have been there for a while, but this attempted assassination of Trump puts everything in a much harsher light. What really raises eyebrows are the reports of miscommunication on the day of the rally. Local SWAT teams had eyes on Crooks and relayed information about him, but somehow, that intel never reached the Secret Service. Why? Because the two groups used separate communication systems. And then there's the drone-Crooks was able to fly a drone over the rally site and gather intelligence, while the Secret Service chose not to deploy their own drone. How does that even happen? No one's been held accountable yet. The only person who's faced any real consequences so far is Assistant Director Michael Plati, who just "retired" from his role overseeing protective operations. The official story is that it was a personal decision, but come on-after a colossal failure like this, it's hard not to see his retirement as a scapegoat move. And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, we find out that the lead advance agent for Trump's protection failed his training exams. Now a whistleblower alleges that the lead advance agent for President Trump's entire trip to Butler, PA had failed training exams when she first joined the Secret Service. And the Secret Service Director won't even level with what's going on here. It's absurd.
