We were also thrilled to be included in the Ford Foundation’s [$4M grant]( supporting social justice documentaries. And just announced: our new film, LOWNDES COUNTY AND THE ROAD TO BLACK POWER, will be [streaming on Peacock]( on February 2, and WHITE BIRD: A WONDER STORY is set to [hit theaters this August](. A Well-Earned Nomination We are still pinching ourselves over this week’s Academy Award® nominations announcement, where ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED earned a spot among great company in the documentary film category. Congratulations to our longtime collaborator, director [Laura Poitras]( and the entire team behind this film for bringing to the forefront one of the most pressing issues of our time, the overdose crisis. Together with Nan Goldin’s organization, [P.A.I.N.]( (Prescription Addiction Intervention Now) and [OnPoint NYC]( we’re working to destigmatize drug use and ultimately save lives. This marks the 12th consecutive year we've received an Oscars nomination, bringing our total to 86 nominations and 21 wins across all of our titles. Congrats to the other nominees as well as the filmmakers behind DESCENDANT, which was included in [IndieWire’s Top films of 2022]( and has been nominated for Best Documentary Film at the upcoming [PGA Awards](. [READ MORE]( [DESCENDANT at White House]( Making the Ancestors Proud The DESCENDANT team visits the White House You know it’s going to be a great year when the very first week includes a once-in-a-lifetime [visit to the White House]( On January 6th, the DESCENDANT team was invited to meet with officials from the Office of the Vice President and the Council on Environmental Quality to discuss environmental justice for the Africatown community. The next day, following a sold-out screening of DESCENDANT at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the filmmakers and the descendants met with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to advocate for support with local issues, to which the EPA pledged its commitment. We’re so proud of what this team of activists and filmmakers have been able to accomplish and can’t wait for all that’s to come.
