Hi there, In memory of our beloved colleague, we are proud to announce the [Diane Weyermann Fellowship]( established by Points North, in partnership with Participant and the Skoll Foundation. The fellowship is “aimed at supporting global filmmaking teams in production on feature length documentary films that highlight stories of moral and ethical urgency.” The fellowship was announced at the [Camden International Film Festival]( which also screened several of the last films Diane executive produced, including A COMPASSIONATE SPY, LOWNDES COUNTY AND THE ROAD TO BLACK POWER, and DESCENDANT. The festival also featured a surprise screening of ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED, which took home the Golden Lion for Best Film at the Venice International Film Festival. Read on to learn more about the film’s prestigious win, and to see what’s next on Participant’s fall slate. –Your fellow Participants [Laura Poitras - IMAGE]( Big Win! Taking Home The Golden Lion at Venice ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED We’re thrilled to congratulate Director Laura Poitras, whose documentary ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED was [awarded the coveted Golden Lion]( for best film at the 79th Venice International Film Festival. It’s only the second time a documentary has won the top prize. Lauded as “a towering and devastating work of shocking intelligence and still greater emotional power” ([IndieWire]( the doc is an epic story about internationally renowned artist and activist Nan Goldin. Told through her slideshows, intimate dialogue, groundbreaking photography, and rare footage, the film details Goldin’s life of art and activism, and her fight to hold the Sackler family (owners of Purdue Pharma) accountable for the opioid crisis. Up next: ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED will serve as the [Centerpiece selection]( at the New York Film Festival on October 7. We can’t wait to share this movie with the world. It will first be [released theatrically by NEON this fall]( then stream on [HBO Max](. [WATCH A CLIP]( [INVISIBLE DEMONS - IMAGE]( Too Hot To Handle INVISIBLE DEMONS (Coming to MUBI October 4) Striking, visceral, and immersive, INVISIBLE DEMONS, Director Rahul Jain’s [award-winning documentary]( centers on a few of Delhi’s 30 million inhabitants, who fight to survive India’s suffocating heat amid climate change. Jain engages the senses by directly stimulating our desire to live in a world with equitable access to clean air and water, asking, "Is it possible to imagine this future in Delhi, in India, or anywhere in the modern world?” Presented by Participant, A Toinen Katse, and Ma.Ja.De. Film Production, INVISIBLE DEMONS premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival and won a Jussi Award, Finland’s equivalent of the Oscars®, and has been nominated for numerous other awards, including the Golden Eye (l’Oeil d’or) at Cannes, and Best Documentary at the Athens and Zurich film festivals. Watch it on MUBI starting October 4. [WATCH THE TRAILER]( [Uniting to Save Doctors' Lives - IMAGE]( Uniting to Save Doctors' Lives Inspired by THE FIRST WAVE (Streaming on Hulu) Physicians have [one of the highest suicide rates]( of any profession, and often don’t seek mental health care despite the traumatic, exhausting experience fighting the pandemic. One major reason: stigma, and fear of career repercussions. A survey shows that [43% of doctors]( had not sought help for burnout or depression because they “don’t want to risk disclosure to the medical board.” In honor of [National Physician Suicide Awareness Day]( (September 17), together with our partners at the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes Foundation and the ALL IN coalition, we launched a [first-of-its-kind map]( identifying the states that have audited and changed the intrusive language from their physician licensure applications. Our team also screened the film for the The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and hosted a panel, which featured a representative from the Surgeon General’s office. Want to get involved? Join us by calling on your State Medical Board to prioritize physicians’ mental health and well-being.
