Nigerian princes are going nut July 04, 2024 [WEBSITE]( | [UNSUBSCRIBE]( Why Nigerian princes are losing their minds over stablecoins. The “iPhone of Crypto” is Surging CHRIS CAMPBELL Dear Reader, Good news for people who love good news: Nigerian princes are the happiest they’ve ever been. Why? Because they no longer have to deal with banks - and those pesky transfer transfer restrictions! With crypto, they can now directly access their vast fortunes without needing your help to cash any checks. (Moving forward, if you receive any more letters from Nigerian princes, I regret to inform you: it’s a scam.) Word of the day: stablecoins. They’re becoming the “mobile phones” of crypto. Weird thing to say… but hear me out. The insanely quick adoption of mobile phones around the world revealed one thing: Developing countries - when given the chance - can leapfrog developed nations. In Kenya, for example, landlines are scarce, but there are - bare minimum - 1.25 cell phones for every citizen. Mobile phones allowed countries to overcome the lack of landline infrastructure. Similarly, stablecoins are enabling financial transactions in areas with limited banking infrastructure. In countries like Nigeria, where many still don’t have bank accounts, stablecoins provide a way to “DeFi” inflation. “That feeling when you go to the market to buy your groceries,” one Nigerian stablecoin tutorial reads, “only to find out prices have mysteriously gone up again. Inflation! In Nigeria, inflation is a constant battle, eating away at your hard-earned money.” There’s a According to the most recent CPI report by Nigeria’s official National Statistical Office (NSO), inflation increased to 33.69% in April. So, putting your money in a bank and getting 5%? Not a good strategy. Especially given the fact that the government can shut down the bank overnight and take your money - poof, gone. There’s also real estate. While a good long-term investment, there are huge risks involved if you don’t have the right connections - and sometimes even if you do. Not only is real estate fraud rampant, but the government plans to implement a monthly rent payment policy, suggesting possible government-imposed rent controls. So… what are your options? “By buying and holding stablecoins like USDT and USDC on a crypto wallet, you're already well protected against inflation and devaluation of the Naira.” But the tutorial goes far further than just “buy stablecoins and store them in your wallet.” It also shows you how to make money on your stablecoins within DeFi. To wit: “The value of the global DeFi market is currently over $100 billion in Total Value Locked (TVL). This huge number means a lot of people are making a lot of money. DeFi is the perfect tool for earning passive income. “And in Nigeria, where depositors often run the risk of their banks getting halted or shut down due to strike actions or having their operating licenses revoked by the CBN, DeFi offers an opportunity to level the financial playing field through strategies like staking, lending, and liquidity provisioning.” While many in the West would view this as “risky” behavior, here’s the fact: Getting 5% and even up to 30% on your money from stablecoins in DeFi is - so long as you understand and abide by basic crypto security principles - safer than keeping your money in the Naira or even investing in local real estate. And that’s the unfortunate reality for billions of people around the world. Business is booming. Regarding next Monday. This is an URGENT Customer Service Announcement that our records show you are not on the alert list for this upcoming Monday. And you know it’s serious when our Customer Service Director takes time off the phone to record [this message on camera.]( Please stop what you’re doing… And watch [this urgent message about h]( to add your email address to Monday’s alert list]( The Stablecoin Market In January 2020, the total market cap of stablecoins was around $5 billion. Today? We’re about to hit $180 billion and beyond - a massive 3500%+ increase in four years. Most of it has to do with international adoption. Crypto commenter Nic Carter wrote: “Stablecoins are changing everything relating to offshore finance. access to yield, dollar banking, remittances, payroll, cross border settlement, both b2b and consumer. It's all being rebuilt on stables, expeditiously.” Just this week, Circle announced that USDC and EURC are now compliant with Europe’s MiCA regulations - and available to European customers. Circle and Paxos just received money licenses in the EU and Singapore. Société Generale, the biggest retail bank in France, just released their stablecoin (EURCV) into the wild on Ethereum. Like USDC, the EURCV is now permissionless. No less, the Wall Street Journal is beginning to talk about themes we’ve been writing about for over two years - why Uncle Sam will embrace stablecoins like USDC. As the article below points out: “Stablecoins backed by dollars provide demand for U.S. public debt and a way to keep up with China.” Bada bing. Stablecoins. Stablecoins. Stablecoins.
