Italy's Secret Islands with [Imperatours]( Ciao Oyster readers! Before this spring, my experience of Italy had largely been limited to the metropolitan buzz of its capital city. However, after taking a trip with [Imperatours]( I was exposed to a whole new side of Italian travel—one filled with sandy beaches, fresh seafood, and castles on the coast. [The Colosseum]( [The first two days of my trip were a whirlwind journey from Rome down to the Province of Naples. Day one included a panoramic tour of the iconic sites of Rome, where an expert local guide regaled us with the history of the city from the Pantheon to the Colosseum and everything in between (and, of course, took us out for gelato to end the day). On day two, an]( driver escorted us from Rome to Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii, where my group explored the ruins, took a drive up the infamous volcano, and enjoyed a classic lunch of pizza and pasta. All of this, however, was just an opening act for the main attraction of the trip: Ischia. A small island made up of just six towns, Ischia is tucked away in the Gulf of Naples near its sister islands of Procida and Capri. Here, we checked into Botania Relais & Spa, a luxe resort built into a rolling botanical garden, complete with private thermal baths, onsite Michelin Star dining, and stunning views of the surrounding island. My time over the next four days was split between relaxing by the pool and getting to know the area through adventures like:
—Treatments at the Fonte delle Ninfe Nitrodi, the oldest spa in the world
—A guided tour of the Castello Aragonese d'Ischia
—A day trip to neighboring island Procida
—Exploring the island’s sandy beaches
—Sampling limoncello on Via Roma, the island’s main shopping area

[Imperatours']( attention to detail was the highlight of the trip. Each part of the itinerary was grounded in a thoughtful authenticity designed to allow guests to immerse themselves in Italian culture. Their partnership with experienced local guides was both educational and gave me insight into the region I never would have gotten on my own, like the top spots for Lingue di Procida or the secret to identifying authentic Neapolitan pizza (hint: you should be able to fold it in half easily).
Happy Travels!
