Here’s a bird’s-eye view of the kinds of impact your support powered in 2022: - In Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, interventions on violence against women and girls reached some 120,000 women and 41,000 girls. - In the Philippines, 2,150 vulnerable households in Siargao Islands and Southern Leyte, Philippines received cash assistance to recover from Typhoon Rai and meet their most basic needs. - In Ethiopia, 23 farmer training centers were established, where 12,840 farmers attended technology promotion centers and 400 women and youth improved their business and employment opportunities. - In the United States, nearly 100,000 Oxfam supporters joined us in successfully advocating for the Build Back Better Act, a historic investment in child care, paid leave, climate action, and making billionaires pay their fair share. Veronica Wambui, for example, is a water vendor in Korogocho, Kenya, whose community could no longer pay for water when the pandemic hit, putting her livelihood at risk — and her community’s health on the line. Thankfully, Oxfam partner Koch Hope started to provide water in her community as part of their COVID-19 response, and hired Veronica as a contractor. “I was able to pay school fees…for my child and put food on the table without much struggle,” says Veronica. That same initiative also provided cash grants to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, which soared during the pandemic. More than 200 survivors in Korogocho and nearby Mukuru received counseling services and cash assistance they can put towards any purpose, including paying their medical bills.
