Option Pit Income [frep, frep header, header, logo] Big Money is preparing for post-election. Where are they heading? Let's track the money and find their trades[Click here to get started.]( Hey Traders, Let's jump right in. Overall State of the Market It seems like we're in a bit of a "Groundhog Day" scenario lately (arguably one of the best comedies of all time), with stocks attempting to sell off early each morning but consistently finding support as the day progresses. I often say this is a "VIX 12 market dressed in a 20." In other words, the VIX is a whole lot of bark and no bite. That works in our favor, as we prefer selling overpriced options. However, as PredictIt odds of a Trump win solidify and recent strong data—such as retail sales—continue to emerge, we're observing a general softening of fear across many asset classes. The much-feared hard landing never materialized. Volatility in equities, credit, currencies, and oil has decreased. One exception is the rates market, where risk premiums have recently increased. This makes sense, as I've been critical of the Fed's rate-cutting intentions for months. Many of those previously aggressive rate-cut expectations have since been scaled back, though the story is far from over. Data has once again taken center stage as investors search for signs of renewed inflationary pressures amid strong and sustained economic growth. Concerns about fiscal policy and the upcoming election also weigh heavily on the rate markets. Indeed, it feels as though rates volatility has spilled over into nearly every other asset class. Even after the election on November 5, we’ll still be watching VERY closely for the FOMC rate decision on November 7. It's only around this time that we may start to see a reduction in concern in the rates market, with a corresponding compression in the VIX and other volatility measures. While Trump may arguably be more favorable for markets, the uncertainty surrounding the election is proving to be uncomfortable, similar to what has occured ahead of previous elections.
