What Is Facebook Pay and How to Use It
by Aseem Kishore | [Online Tech Tips](
[Facebook Pay]( is Facebookâs effort to make moving money online easier and more secure. You can use it as a [money sending app]( to split a bill with friends or as a service to order things online.
Facebook introduced Facebook Pay on November 12, 2019. There has been a payment platform on Facebook and Messenger since before then, but itâs only now that Facebook has announced plans to bring it to their other apps and websites – WhatsApp and Instagram.
The new idea with Facebook Pay versus the old way Facebook has allowed online payments, is that you can have the payment method be used across all their apps. After signing up and choosing a payment method, you can easily buy things and exchange money with recipients from any of their apps.
Where Facebook Pay Works
Facebook Pay currently runs on Facebook and Messenger, but itâs also coming to Instagram and WhatsApp. It works across all platforms, so you can use it through those websites or through the mobile apps.
Only users in the US can use Facebook Pay at this time, but Facebook is planning on rolling it out to other countries eventually.
What Facebook Pay Is For
Facebook Pay serves two purposes depending on where youâre using it – to pay people and to buy things online.
Hereâs what you can do (eventually, once implemented) with Facebook Pay from each of Facebookâs apps:
- Facebook: Buy things from Facebook Marketplace, donate to fundraisers you support, and buy games and event tickets.
- Messenger: Pay friends and family from your phone or computer.
- Instagram: Donate and order things from brands you follow.
- WhatsApp: Send and receive money just like in Messenger.
How To Use Facebook Pay
The easiest way to start using Facebook Pay is to attempt to send money to someone.Â
- Open a conversation with the person you want to send money to or request money from.
- Tap the four-dotted menu to the left of the text field. It might be an arrow if your keyboard is open. This button is a plus sign on computers.
- Choose Pay Friend. Click the money icon if youâre using the desktop version of the site.
- Enter an amount and an optional note, and then choose either REQUEST or PAY.
- Add your payment information; you can pick ADD DEBIT CARD or ADD PAYPAL. Desktop users have to use a debit card at this screen.
- Select the payment method now that youâve added it to your account.
- Choose PAY or REQUEST to complete the transaction. If you selected PayPal, youâll have an option to pick which payment method from your account that you want to use. You can also see which methods charge a fee and which are free.
- To get back to the screen where you can add a payment method, open the menu in Messenger and choose Payments.
- Then Add new debit card or PayPal.
- If youâre using Messenger on a computer, open the menu, go to Settings, and then select Manage on Facebook from the Payments section.
Another way to access the Facebook Pay settings is from the Facebook website.Â
- Open your [Facebook settings]( and choose Payments from the left side, and then Account Settings at the top.
- To see all your Facebook Pay transactions, open the Payment History page of your Facebook settings, [or go here](.
Facebook Pay vs PayPal
Should you use Facebook Pay or PayPal? With both options readily available and free for most transactions, it might seem like a tough decision. However, PayPal and Facebook Pay are (currently) vastly different in terms of functionality.
Hereâs a quick look at PayPal vs Facebook Pay:
- PayPal works at more stores
- Facebook Pay is easier to set up
- PayPal works in more countries
- Facebook Pay doesnât charge fees
- PayPal doesnât require a Facebook account
Facebook Pay is great for sending money to friends and family. All you need is a debit card number, and you can make payments really easily from any conversation. In its current form, Facebook Pay is just a peer-to-peer payment platform. You canât actually buy anything with it.
This is where PayPal is different. As you might already know, lots of online stores and even physical stores let you pay with PayPal. All your payment information is stored in your account, and you can just check out with your PayPal account to securely and quickly buy things.
Another difference thatâs really only relevant for a short time is that Facebook Pay requires you to have a Facebook account. This is because you have to set up your account through Facebook or Messenger. However, once Facebook makes Facebook Pay available to WhatsApp and Instagram users, youâll be able to use the service without ever having a Facebook account.
If you donât have a Facebook account or you donât like to use it, your only option (between these two payment platforms) is PayPal.Â
Another difference between Facebook Pay and PayPal is that there currently are zero fees to use the former. PayPal, on the other hand, [takes a certain percentage]( of some transactions.
PayPal also has the upper hand in that you can use it in [more than 200 countries/regions]( and exchange money in over two-dozen currencies. Facebook Pay only works with the US dollar, and is only available in the US (though they will expand in the future).
With that being said, PayPal doesnât have the ultra-quick setup that Facebook Pay has. If your friend doesnât have Facebook Pay but you want to send or request money from them, they can enable payments from their account in just a minute or two; PayPalâs setup procedure isnât that fast.

5 Apps Parents Can Use To Spy On Their Childrenâs Internet Use
by Saphia Lanier | [Online Tech Tips](
As a parent, you have to protect your children from the hidden (and not-so-hidden) dangers of the world. Now that your pre-teens and teens have access to smart devices, they’re at a higher risk of being exposed to life’s harsh realities.Â
Without proper supervision, a smartphone or tablet can allow your children to connect with strangers, learn obscene behaviors, and engage in other horrendous acts.Â
However, this doesn’t mean you have to restrict your child from smartphone use. Instead, you can monitor and limit their activities. Here are five apps you can secretly use to spy on your childrenâs internet use.Â
[Mobicip]( – Top Of The Line Spy App
The Mobicip app comes with all the features a parent may want to ensure the safety of their children’s online activities. It allows you to collect a range of information about a device’s use.Â
For example, you can block sites and apps and receive notifications whenever your child tries to access it. Plus, it’ll tell you when they try to search for the content you filtered out. You can block sites and apps based on categories (over 30 included), or you can block specific apps (i.e., WhatsApp, Snapchat, etc.).Â
If you want to allow your children to text message or chat, then you can set it up so that both sides of the conversation are captured. Then so you’re not sitting around reading an endless number of texts each week, you can create alerts for phrases, such as “don’t tell” or “sneak out.”
The downside about this app is that you only receive alerts via a portal or email (no texts). Other than that, you can set up the app on five different devices, and there’s no need to root or jailbreak them.Â
Also, the cost is $50/year, which is cheaper than many other options with monthly plans.Â
[mSpy]( – Spy App for Remote Access
Teens will be teens â when they try to do something outlandish, you have tools like mSpy to find out their whereabouts. After downloading mSpy to your child’s phone, you’ll be able to spy on your childrenâs internet use and other activities.Â
For instance, you’ll be able to see if they are where they say they are. Plus, you can monitor their emails, text messages, and calls. It also comes with a keylogger to track what your children are typing to friends or on the web.Â
If your children have cameras on their phones (which they likely do), then you can browse through their photos (right from your control panel). Speaking of pictures, you can monitor their social media accounts, including Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.Â
You can use this app on iOS and Android devices. However, you’ll need to jailbreak certain phones. You can expect to pay under $20/month for mSpy.Â
[Qustodio]( – The Cheaper Spy App
You’re liking what spy apps can do for your parenting â but you’re not too thrilled about the prices. If that’s the case, then you can opt for Qustodio. This comes with three different plans, starting at $4.58/month for the small plan ($55 annually).Â
With this option, you can protect up to five devices. As for what you can do with it â you can:
- Filter content by category
- Limit when your child can use the phone
- Limit how long your child can access the web
- Monitor conversations on chat apps and texts
- Receive alerts for “red flag” key phrases
- Save transcripts of conversations
Then one of its best features is the panic button. This allows your child to click the button to instantly alert you when they’re in trouble or lost.Â
[Hoverwatch]( – Monitor & Record Everything
Maybe you have a problematic child who always finds their way into trouble. If that’s so, then you need Hoverwatch. With this app, you’ll be able to record phone calls, text messages, and media they receive or share.Â
Then you can also spy on your childrenâs internet use – including what they’re doing on social apps like Facebook, Skype, Whatsapp, Snapchat, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Of course, you’re able to do all of this without your child knowing. Then to top it off, you can access their phone’s contact list, notes, and calendar entries.Â
There are three plans to choose from, the cheapest starting at $25/month. You can opt to pay quarterly or annually as well. You can install this app on any Android, iOS, or Windows device. Plus, there’s no need to root or jailbreak the device.Â
The downside — there’s no keylogging or screenshot capturing. Some also complain that the internet filters don’t work well on mobile.Â
[FlexiSpy]( – The Spy App Powerhouse
You don’t want to just spy on your children’s smartphone. You also want to know what they’re doing on their laptop and tablet. With FlexiSpy, you can monitor the activities across all devices. It works on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. So what can it do?
Well, you can use it to both record and listen in on phone calls. Yes, you can go super spy and intercept calls. Plus, the app is completely hidden as it logs all of their keystrokes and logs.Â
It also comes with more than 150 features that include:
- Remotely accessing the camera and video recorder
- Monitoring WhatsApp and other social activities/messages
- Turning on device’s mic to listen in on what’s happening
- Recording VoIP calls (Skype, Viber, etc.)
Being that this is a robust tool, you can expect to pay accordingly. The price starts at $68/month for premium, or you can go all out for $199/quarter. This will give you all of the features, including recording all audio streams.Â
Always Know What Your Kids Are Up To
Your children are curious beings — this can be a good thing. However, this can often lead to troubling situations. So to prevent your child from getting in too deep, you can restrict their access and monitor their activities.Â
You’ll thank yourself later when you stop your child from getting into a heap of trouble. So check out these tools to ensure your children stay safe, whether they’re home or not!
