On Friday, a federal court ruled Ohio's maps unconstitutional. Let's send a message that we're un-rigging districts all over the country. [All On The Line] {NAME} -- How's this for a quick update? On Friday morning, our team sent you the email below -- shining a light on Ohio's 4th District, one of the most gerrymandered in the country (take a look at the picture below and you'll see why they call it "Ohio's Duck"). We laid out our plan to un-rig it and get rid of extreme legislators like Rep. Jim Jordan, who stand in the way of common-sense progress. On Friday afternoon, just hours later, a three-judge panel in federal court ruled Ohio's maps (including OH-4!) unconstitutional. While the decision will be appealed to the Supreme Court, this could be a big win for our movement for fair maps. So many of you stepped up to adopt Ohio's 4th District with a small monthly donation to AOTL on Friday. Let's double that number today and send a message to Ohio Republicans -- they're going to fight back with everything they have to keep this system rigged. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Monthly donate: $3](=/) [Monthly donate: $5](=/) [Monthly donate: $15](/) [Monthly donate: $35](/) [Monthly donate: $50](/) [Or donate another amount](/) And if the news above wasn't enough to grab your attention, here's my final attempt. Our team made me cut these puns from our original email -- but if any of them help you remember how messed up OH-4 and its "Duck Bill" are, then I've done my job: Ohio's 4th District map isn't all it's quacked up to be. Jim Jordan has been ducking out on his constituents for far too long. The bill has come due for Jim Jordan. This is a tail of unfairness. Let's go fix it. [Make a small monthly donation to this team](/) and help us un-rig districts like OH-4 across the country. Thanks, Saumya Saumya Narechania Campaign Manager, All On The Line ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ORIGINAL MESSAGE] Date: Friday, May 3 From: All On The Line Subject: The Shape of Things: OH-4 The Shape Of Things: OH-4. "How did Ohio's most liberal city end up with its most conservative Congressman?" -- WKSU Ohio, Dec. 2017 [ The district: Ohio's 4th Congressional District. How is it gerrymandered? "Ohio's duck" is one of the longest, most convoluted districts in the state. It stretches into Lorain, Huron, and Erie through another 11 counties to get near the Indiana border. And it goes just far enough north to include Oberlin, likely the most liberal community in Ohio. That's no accident: State Republicans in control of the 2011 redistricting process did it on purpose, ensuring Oberlin's likely Democratic voters would be buried in an otherwise-conservative district. OH-4 is specifically designed to slice up communities, diminish Democratic voters, and ensure GOP dominance. [Here's how you can help today: Adopt Ohio's 4th District with a small monthly donation. Your contribution will support All On The Line's push for fair districts in Ohio and other states.](/) So who represents OH-4? Rep. Jim Jordan, Tea Party leader and one of the most conservative members of Congress. He votes with President Trump 85% of the time and doesn't have to answer for extreme positions, given that he's protected by a gerrymandered district. Here's just a sampling of his actions in Congress: - Defending the addition of a citizenship question to the 2020 Census - Warning pharmaceutical companies about oversight investigations - Supporting Trump's withdrawal from the Paris accords that enlist nearly every country to combat climate change - Voting against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act It's almost as if he's running to the extreme on purpose to fend off a primary challenge in his district. What can we do? Here's the good news: Ohio, like every state nationwide, will draw new districts in 2021 -- after the critical 2020 Census. We need to make sure that: 1) We have a fair and accurate 2020 Census, and 2) Ohio and other states engage their communities to ensure a fair, transparent process to draw impartial districts. All On The Line is leading the way on both fronts -- and you can help. Adopt OH-4 with a small monthly contribution, and support citizens whose voices aren't being adequately represented by Jim Jordan and other extreme reps like him. We'll update you on our progress in districts around the country: If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Monthly donate: $3](=/) [Monthly donate: $5](=/) [Monthly donate: $15](/) [Monthly donate: $35](/) [Monthly donate: $50](/) [Or donate another amount](/) Thanks, Team All On The Line Paid for by Organizing for Action.
