From the team at NZ House & Garden [NZ House & Garden] [NZ House & Garden - From the Editor]( Hi {NAME}, We've used the tagline, "Bold + Beautiful: Homes with a sense of adventure", to describe the selection of houses in our September issue, on sale today. Certainly our Home of the Month, which is also featured on the cover, built at Raumati Beach on the KÄpiti Coast is one such example. Adventurous interiors contrast with the almost industrial construction, with exuberant colours, warm wood, strong patterns and textures counterbalancing the austerity of the concrete walls and wide expanses of glass. The owners designed the home themselves and describe living there as "very easy and relaxing" but for many, opting for such a large concrete structure would be seen as brave and bold. I think you'll agree it is both of these things but it is also beautiful and, as the homeowners say, the perfect home to withstand the salty air and any extreme weather situation that comes with coastal living. A sense of adventure, although manifested in a very different way, is also apparent in the heritage Wairarapa homestead filled with treasures and owned by a couple who have set up the similarly intriguing store, Wicked Secret Emporium, nearby. Contemporary art, fascinating objects and exquisite chandeliers, along with eye-catching wallpaper choices and opulent fabrics all combine to make this a layered and fascinating home. Our September garden is the result of one man's passion which overrode his self-confessed lack of botanical knowledge, money and time. Although it's hard to believe now looking at the plant-packed property in central Invercargill there were many blunders made along the way and his gardening know-how literally grew with the garden. Now he finds solace and joy in the "action-packed garden that performs all year round". I'm hoping that this issue offers at least one idea that you take away and implement to be just that bit more daring within your own home.
