From the team at NZ House & Garden [NZ House & Garden] [NZ House & Garden - From the Editor]( Hi {NAME}, We see it all the time: that dedicated vision homeowners have to get the look and feel of their place exactly the way they want it. But it also takes hard work and an eye for the items that fit the style, along with an understanding of how to achieve an overarching cohesiveness. Patience is also part of the formula because it can take time to find the right piece. Then when it all comes together it appears seamless, even effortless, to the onlooker. Our cover house in the June issue â on sale today â is one such home where all of the above has happened and the result is magical. Homeowner of this tiny Wellington heritage apartment, Tracy White, fitted it out and furnished it largely from Trade Me and Facebook Marketplace finds. Before she fixed on the look she wanted Tracy spent a day sitting in it and observing the light. She discovered the lounge got little sun so she made the bold decision to paint it a dark inky blue to set the mood. The notion of a traditional gentlemenâs club was formed and accordingly, carpets were pulled up to reveal the original mataÄ« floors. She has created a genuine bolthole that smacks of an innate understanding of what it takes to make a historic space both liveable â in a practical sense â and yet completely cocooning and relaxing. Emma Post and Andrew Halliwellâs Mt Eden bungalow is all about having space for both family and a terrific art collection. Art is another layer that makes a house feel like a home and yet so many people find it hard to know what they like and where and how to get it. Emma loves art and has been gradually collecting over the years. Statement pieces anchor each room with a strong emphasis on New Zealand artists. Carefully chosen designer furniture completes the picture. This issue is one worth spending time on as itâs full of ideas and inspiration on how to progress your own style. Happy reading.
