Wednesday, October 9 at the United Palace Dear New Yorkers, The New York City Comptroller's Office cordially invites you to our 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Wednesday, October 9 at the United Palace. The theme of this year's National Hispanic Heritage Month is "Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together," which seeks to capture the "spirit of innovation, strength, and unity" of the Latine experience. Together, with New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, Executive Comptroller Sandra Abeles, and Councilmember Carmen De La Rosa, we will break bread, enjoy the art of Annette A. Aguilar, Dr. Eli Yamin, Tony Castillo, and Dance Project of Washington Heights, directed by Heather Godfrey, and celebrate and honor Latine New Yorkers who, through their dedication and commitment to serving our Latine communities, help us forge a better collective future. This year’s Honorees include: - Annette A. Aguilar, Nicaraguan-American multi-percussionist specializing in Latin percussion, recording artist, educator, producer, and bandleader at StringBeans - María M. Khury, Dominican-American community leader, CEO and President of Khury Services and ALTA Travel, and Senior Partner at Elite Solutions - Tanya Katerí Hernández, Afro-Puerto Rican, Archibald R. Murray Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law, Associate Director of the Center on Race, Law, and Justice at Fordham University School of Law, Fulbright Scholar, Author of “Racial Innocence: Unmasking Latino Anti-Black Bias and The Struggle for Equality” - Aneth Naranjo, Ecuadorian, Juvenile Justice Organizer, Juvenile Justice Program Manager at NYU Metro Center, Founding Member of Integrate NYC, Co-Founder of The Peer Defense Project The United Palace is located at 4140 Broadway, New York, NY 10033. So, we released this [Latine Fact Sheet]( to share some statistics and information about the Latine population in New York State and New York City. We have chosen to use the term "Latine" because it represents an evolving language that more accurately reflects the diversity of backgrounds and gender identities encompassed by the diverse and extensive Latine diaspora. By using the term Latine, we hope that all people who identify as Latinos, Latinas, Hispanics, Trans and Latin Americans can see themselves. We hope to see you on October 9th!
