and upcoming construction in the 39th [View this email in your browser]( Dear Friend, - The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) will implement mandatory trash containerization for residential properties this Fall. To stay informed and [avoid potential penalties or fines]( make sure you understand the new rules! Attend a [virtual information session]( for details. - Starting November 12th, all properties with 1-9 residential units must use bins with a maximum capacity of 55 gallons and secure lids for trash disposal. - This rule also applies to special-use buildings receiving DSNY collection, such as City agencies, nonprofits, houses of worship, and professional offices in residential buildings. - To [order official NYC Bins]( which are priced lower than similar bins at retail stores, make your purchase by October 1st to ensure delivery before the November 12th deadline. - Additionally, beginning Spring 2025, DSNY will introduce containerization requirements for residential buildings with ten or more units, using different on-street and wheeled receptacles. My office will be sure to provide more information as soon as it becomes available. - Businesses are responsible for maintaining cleanliness around their properties,  including sidewalks, tree pits, grass strips, gutters, yards, and alleyways adjacent to their buildings. DSNY will begin [inspecting businesses and issuing fines]( for non-compliance with these cleaning requirements. Starting in December, businesses that repeatedly receive tickets for cleaning violations will face escalated fines, which could reach up to $500 on the third offense. - Our office is on the Ground Floor of 197 Bond Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217. September 2024 - Tuesday, 9/17, 9 AM to 12 PM: The Shredding Truck is returning to District 39! Bring your old, unwanted paper waste for FREE on-site shredding at the corner of 4th Street and 5th Avenue. Please ensure that the paper is free of metal items (such as paper clips, binder clips, and staples), rubber bands, and plastic. - Tuesday, 9/17, 10 AM to 5 PM: The Housing and Preservation Department (HPD) Outreach Van will be stationed outside my District Office to assist constituents with affordable housing applications, filing complaints, financing repairs, addressing violations, and other housing-related issues. This is the first of three HPD in Your District events we are co-hosting this Fall in partnership with Assembly Member Jo Anne Simon and State Senator Andrew Gounardes. See below for additional dates and locations! - Friday, 9/20, 10 AM to 5 PM: The HPD Outreach Van will return to District 39 to answer all your housing questions, this time in Kensington at 118 Beverley Road, Basement, Brooklyn, NY 11218. - Friday, 9/20, 12 PM: In partnership with CHiPS, our office will resume our monthly food distributions, providing culturally appropriate pantry and fresh vegetable bags to community members in Kensington. Distributions will take place at Kensington Plaza, located at the intersection of Church Avenue and Beverley Road. Bags are available on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one per family while supplies last. If you’d like to volunteer to assist with registration and distribution, [please fill out this form](.  - Sunday, 9/22, 10 AM to 12 PM: Join us, Clean-Up Kensington, and Big Reuse to clean, weed, and care for Kensington’s street trees. October 2024 - Tuesday, 10/1, 10 AM to 5 PM: Don’t miss your last opportunity this year to visit the HPD In Your District Outreach Van! Get answers to all your housing-related questions at our District Office. - Tuesday, 10/1, 6 PM to 7:30 PM: Join us for a community discussion at the Park Slope Library on the shared watershed of Park Slope and Gowanus. We’ll explore how residents can prepare for the increasing frequency of flooding in the district, with insights from experts from the Department of Environmental Protection and NYC Emergency Management. This event is co-hosted by Forth on Fourth Avenue (FOFA), Gowanus Canal Conservancy (GCC), Park Slope Civic Council, and the City Sponge. You’ll have the chance to speak with former and current PB volunteers about how you can get involved in this exciting process. - Wednesday, 10/24, 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM: Interested in Participatory Budgeting (PB) and want to get involved? Constituent Services Corner In her first week as Constituent Services Liaison, Sabine made significant strides by coordinating with DSNY to address an overflowing street dumpster and an illegally dumped mattress on Bond Street between Warren and Wyckoff Streets. Thanks to DSNY's prompt action and our office's follow-up on the 311 reports, both the dumpster and mattress were removed within just a few days! [Register]( to learn how you can contribute your input! - NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital will begin replacing its ambulance deck and ramp on 7th Street and 7th Avenue this week. Construction will take place Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 6 PM, with possible work on Saturdays. Expect noise and reduced parking during this 6 to 9-month project. - We recognize this may lead to concerns about increased traffic on 7th Street. While 7th Avenue cannot be used for ambulance drop-offs due to privacy and medical needs, NYP is collaborating with FDNY EMS and has added security from 7 AM to 11 PM, Monday to Friday, to help manage traffic.
