Hi {NAME}, this is Hassan from No Dem Left Behind. I have some unfortunate news to share with you today. After another school shooting with more children and teachers slaughtered, it has been made crystal clear that the GOP in the 118th Congress will not lift a finger. It gets worse; I have been on the phone with our elected officials and their staff all week. The news on the Hill is that Republicans are now preparing to double down and join forces with the NRA. The same group that sponsors terror in our schools, and in our communities, and have destroyed our country. When Donald Trump first brought up the idea that we need to arm our Kindergarten teachers, I thought "okay, this is the moment they all come to their senses and realize he has lost his mind." How wrong I was, and now they are actively pushing legislation to mandate that teachers take weapons training and be armed. My mother has been a teacher her whole life, and she has never held a gun. Her job is already difficult and young children can be extremely stressful. Now, we want to tell teachers that for them to do their jobs they must learn to be a soldier as well. images via Brady United Org Here is what you need to know that will give you hope: Americans, regardless of their political identity, agree on this subject. We need gun reform. Now - we may disagree on what type of reform, but we are all in agreement that we don't want folks with mental health issues to purchase guns. Republicans in Congress might not want to admit this, but even their voters are fed up with our current state. Just to be clear: the reason the NRA and their puppets in Congress want to mandate that teachers be armed is to make sure that more guns will be sold. These people have no shame, do not care about this country, and do not care about the children of this country. When we first launched No Dem Left Behind we were told "...because you want to reach Republicans and Independent voters, it is best to avoid the topic of guns." I am here to tell you that was the worst piece of advice I have ever received. I did not listen to it then, and I will not ever. We need to talk about guns. We need to talk about who should and should not own guns, and we should talk about what guns were built for war. I am angry, and I know you are too. I am not giving up, and I know you won't either. [If you support us, we will make sure this topic is made front and center and we will force the Republicans to be held accountable for their actions and votes. Please chip in and help drive this conversation forward.]( [chip in]( In Solidarity, [Photo of Hassan] Hassan Martini Executive Director, No Dem Left Behind[You can unsubscribe from this mailing list at any time.](
