Ever wondered why some changes stick like glue... while others vanish like smoke?  The answer eluded me for many years until I watched Steve Jobs launch the iPhone in 2007, changing the behaviours of millions of people forever. When something that big and quick happens... it's a treasure trove of lessons for us to learn from.  So how did Steve do it?  First, let's consider what he needed to achieve...  Steve knew that if Apple was going to be successful with the iPhone, he would have to influence millions of people to change their choices and behaviours.  People who, for years, were highly attached to the dominant smartphones of that day, like the Blackberry and Moto Q. (Just like our clients are attached to their problems and ways of doing things.)  No easy task.  Second, he had to get enough people excited by the possibilities of what having an iPhone would mean for THEM so they would CHOOSE to do something different, i.e., leave their old smartphone and get an iPhone.  (Demonstrating another trait of excellent coaches: they are crystal clear about the results they want to co-create with their clients, down to specific behaviours.)  Third, he had to create certainty for people that a) life would be better with the iPhone versus their current choice and b) trigger ample motivation for them to buy it.  (Just like we need to secure commitment as people helpers.)  Fourth, he had to ensure that people stuck with the change and stayed with the iPhone after they bought it.  So what method did he use to accomplish these 4 outcomes so successfully?  What tools, among Apple’s enormous resources, did he turn to?  Did he use questions? No.
Did he use techniques? No.
Did he try to convince them with logic? No.  He didn’t do any of these things.  Instead, like a masterful coach, he hooked the audience with a personal STORY.  He guided them to see how the things they want aren’t possible with their current choices.  (Just like how great coaches prime clients through stories to see how their past choices prevent them from having what they REALLY want … leading them to accept they NEED to change.)  He got them laughing, making them more receptive to his message and open to life being another way, like a top coach would.  He made the vast shortcomings of their current solutions humorously obvious…  …opening the door to a new way of looking at the world, one that, up until then, they had not imagined.  Only then did he present in detail the resolution to all their woes.  A revolutionary device…  … wrapped inside a story.  The iPhone.  Do you use enough powerful stories when working with others? Are you able to create transformations with them?  If you’ve had formal training from big-name coaching schools, I’m willing to bet the answer is no. Because, like Blackberry, they operate from a set of assumptions about change that, while popular, get in the way of helping people ... change!  Putting pressure on you to find the ‘best questions’ in the hopes of creating a breakthrough...  Stories are more than tools for change; they're the invisible engine behind millions of transformations.  Are you using this potent power to your full potential?  [Watch Now: Steve Jobs' Masterclass in Storytelling](  To your success,
