We asked six readers to share what they took away from our Plinkit articles and the parenting insights they're bringing with them this summer. Hope these help you in a pinch too. [A way to stop the sibling bickering]( - "'State the rule.' I love that saying you have. I lose my cool so fast and automatically fly into, 'Why did you do that?' which of course is met with a blank stare back at me. 'State the rule' gave me a script, almost like a prescription for what to do first. That helped me start things a lot calmer." - Abbey [Staying bored]( - "That whole bit about 'Let your child stay bored' is so worth it. I did what you suggested and gave it about 10 minutes to let my daughter 'sit in her boredom' and sure enough, when I checked in on her later, she had made up a whole game with her dolls. She hasn’t played with them in years! It was sweet to see. We also hung up your Boredom Bingo by our device charging station. Great idea!" - Katy [An approach to allowance]( - "I was surprised when you said that you don’t pay allowance for chores. But then you mentioned how allowance is more about teaching financial responsibility; that was an aha for me. So we're going to try your idea of Family Jobs (unpaid) and Money Jobs (that are paid) this summer. I’m curious to see how my boys will decide to spend their money. Probably differently!" - Adrian [On attitude and push-back]( - "OMG the eye-rolls and constant negotiating. It’s too much. I’ve had it!! Thanks for the reminder that *setting a limit* is a good thing. Sticking to the limit is probably the hardest part for me. I like how you reframed it to when I'm sticking to the limit, I’m signalling that things are under control, I mean what I say, and that my child can trust my words." - Vanessa [On uncertainty and independence]( - "There’s a line you had in your article that struck me: 'Experiences of independence introduce a certain level of uncertainty in a child’s decision-making, which is healthy for them to experience.' That was new for me. I had always thought independence was about teaching my kids to do things on their own. Now I think of it more as teaching them how to think on their feet for themselves. I'm going to use this summer as practice for getting my kids used to little uncertainties. Summer is perfect for that because so much of it is unplanned." - Donna [Making outside fun]( - "I cannot tell you how much I love this all-in-one article with your learning tools. We’ve used the scavenger hunts and my kids take the Field Guide on every hike. But guess what’s their favorite (even when they’re so old now)? That awesome jumbo magnifying glass!" - Liz Thank you for your readership and for taking the time to share your parenting journey with us. Your outreach inspires us.
