= Despite being a two-dimensional art form, drawings can sometimes appear to be 3D. They might even look like they "pop off" the page. One of the ways artists are able to do this is through the use of perspective. The two types of perspective in art are linear perspective and atmospheric perspective. [Perspective Drawing](Two-point perspective drawing of a mall. (Photo: [Stock Photos](=)) Linear perspective is a method of representing space in which the scale of an object diminishes as the distance from the viewer increases. Essentially, objects that are farther away from us appear smaller than those that are near. The position at which they meet at a horizon line (the intersection of where the ground meets the sky) is called the vanishing point. - One-Point Perspective: All of the elements of the composition converge at a single vanishing point (i.e. a road). - Two-Point Perspective: Utilizes two vanishing points, typically at opposite sides of the page. - Three-Point Perspective: Sometimes called multi-point, this type includes more than two vanishing points. One example is a point on the left, another on the right, and a third below, creating a bird's eye view.
