Parsons had been with Nine for more than a decade, but departed in 2017 when he was chief digital officer. After a brief stint as CEO of Adcorp, Parsons returned to the Nine family to manage the sale of the events business it had inherited when it took over Fairfax. [READ MORE »]( News [State of Origin game two brings 1.96m metro viewers to Nine]( The second clash between the NSW Blues and the Queensland Maroons has brought 1.96m metro viewers to Nine, a drop from 2.178m for game one which aired on a Wednesday night. This is the second year that game two has been played on a Sunday night, instead of the traditional Wednesday. Last night’s game, however, was also down on last year’s game two, which had 2.09m according to OzTAM’s preliminary overnight figures, and 2.123m according to Nine’s time-adjusted figures. [READ MORE »]( News [Digital ad spend growth dips to single figures for first time in 18 years]( Digital ad spend is set to grow by 7.5% this year, the first time growth has been in the single figures since 2001. The latest forecast has been issued by Magna, IPG Mediabrands’ media intelligence and investment division. Magna also predicts local ad spend will grow by 2.5% this year (less than half of 2018’s 5.3%) to $17bn, and 3.4% in 2020 to $17.6bn. [READ MORE »]( News [ABC looks to end $4m retransmission deal with Foxtel to 'meet funding cuts']( The ABC is looking to end a $4m-a-year deal with News Corp-owned Foxtel. The retransmission agreement involves ABC content being broadcast to the subscription-TV platform’s customers. The renegotiation follows the government’s decision last year to freeze ABC funding from next month, which will cost the public broadcaster $84m over three years. In a statement to Mumbrella, the ABC confirmed that the discussions with Foxtel stem from the fact it is “considering various savings measures to meet funding cuts with minimal impact to our content, services and staff, in accordance with our ongoing obligation to find efficiencies”.
