It was the only gun that ever frustrated me to the point of tears. My father looked at it for a minute, then reassembled it for me. Decades later, I would be extremely grateful to Ruger for making the Mark IV version of that pistol so much easier to take apart and put back together. Regardless of the specific make or model, the sheer abundance of these rifles and the circumstances under which they were imported made them Fudd fodder. Their extremely low prices caused many Americans to view them as poorly made garbage guns not worthy of respect, leading some to victimize them with amateur gunsmithing projects that resulted in poorly welded-on scope rails, home-modified stocks and distasteful rattle can jobs. This included Browning’s groundbreaking Model 1911 pistol. So, to fill the gap, the government contracted with Colt and Smith & Wesson to supply roughly 300,00 large-frame double-action revolvers with a cylinder shortened for the 1911’s .45 ACP service cartridge. Both featured a 5.5″ barrel. [READ MORE]( PRODUCT SHOWCASE [Burris Thermal: Simple. Fast. Powerful.]( Body: Burris Optics introduces three all-new thermal sights for nighttime hunting. Whatever your choice, it was meant to happen. My favorite sixgun all these many decades has been a 71/2″ Single Action beginning with the legendary Colt Model P. I’m sure I was greatly influenced by the arrival of Gunsmoke while I was still in high school — Matt Dillon used a 71/2″ Colt. This certainly had something to do with my brand-new 71/2″ Colt Single Action .45 being the first to arrive in my area in late 1956. I used mine in Fast Draw with an Arvo Ojala Hollywood holster.
