--------------------------------------------------------------- [Goryo's Vengeance](of+Kamigawa/Goryos+Vengeance#paper)
[Fiend Artisan](Lair+of+Behemoths/Fiend+Artisan#paper)
[Triumph of the Hordes](Lair/Triumph+of+the+Hordes-Secret+Lair+x+Fortnite#paper) This week in the world of Magic finance the biggest winner was, for the second week on a row, a Modern card in [Goryo's Vengeance](Masters/Goryos+Vengeance#paper). It really does seem like competitive Magic is starting to make a comeback now that events have resumed and Pro Tours are back. Anyway, [Goryo's Vengeance](Masters/Goryos+Vengeance#paper) increased nearly 400% this week as a result of a new reanimator build featuring [Atraxa, Grand Unifier](Will+Be+One:Foil/Atraxa+Grand+Unifier#paper). If you want to put together the deck, look for Ultimate Masters printings of [Goryo's Vengeance](Masters/Goryos+Vengeance#paper). While the UMA version also jumped around 400% on the week, you can snag copies for around $17 while the Betrayers of Kamigawa version will set you back $30. This is normally where I'd give a disclaimer about [Goryo's Vengeance](Masters/Goryos+Vengeance#paper) eventually being reprinted, and while it will eventually be reprinted, considering we know that our next two big supplemental products are Lord of the Rings and Commander Masters, it might be a while before we get a Modern-focused reprint set, although [Goryo's Vengeance](Masters/Goryos+Vengeance#paper) showing up in a Secret Lair is always a possibility. Meanwhile in Modern [Fiend Artisan](Lair+of+Behemoths/Fiend+Artisan#paper) is on the rise, increasing 23% to nearly $12. The two-drop was pretty hyped when it first came out in Ikoria, but was more or less a flop, but this seems to be changing thanks to [Tyvar, Jubilant Brawler](Will+Be+One/Tyvar+Jubilant+Brawler#paper), which not only reanimates a massive [Fiend Artisan](Lair+of+Behemoths/Fiend+Artisan#paper) but lets you activate its [Birthing Pod](Phyrexia/Birthing+Pod#paper)-esque ability right away. Some builds of [Devoted Druid](Masters+2022/Devoted+Druid#paper) Combo are now running [Fiend Artisan](Lair+of+Behemoths/Fiend+Artisan#paper), as are some Yawgmoth Combo decks, and players are just scratching the surface of what [Tyvar, Jubilant Brawler](Will+Be+One/Tyvar+Jubilant+Brawler#paper) can do, so expect to see more brewing in the future. For now [Fiend Artisan](Lair+of+Behemoths/Fiend+Artisan#paper) seems like a fairly safe buy - before Tyvar it wasn't really on the radar for needing a reprint and it's a one-print mythic - so if you think you might be building around the card in Modern or Pioneer, I'd lean towards picking up copies now. As we've seen from [Indomitable Creativity](Revolt/Indomitable+Creativity#paper), if a one-print mythic becomes the centerpiece of a top-tier deck, the sky is the limit as far as prices go. In stranger news, the Fortnite version of [Triumph of the Hordes](Phyrexia/Triumph+of+the+Hordes#paper) doubled in price this week from around $20 to $45. While you can still snag normal printings for around $18, if you want the Fortnite art you'll have to pay a huge premium. On one hand, this makes sense: poison is a hot topic in Commander right now and [Triumph of the Hordes](Phyrexia/Triumph+of+the+Hordes#paper) is one of the best ways to poison the entire table out of the game. On the other hand, the normal printings of [Triumph of the Hordes](Phyrexia/Triumph+of+the+Hordes#paper) have only increased slightly and the other cards in the Fortnite Secret Lair drop are trending down rather than up, making [Triumph of the Hordes](Phyrexia/Triumph+of+the+Hordes#paper) increase a bit confusing. It could just be a nonsensical buyout. If so, prices should start to fall soon. It could also be that players like the idea of the Fortnite [Triumph of the Hordes](Phyrexia/Triumph+of+the+Hordes#paper) troll value, since poison counters tilt some Magic players and Fortnite cards tilt others. Adding both together offers the potential for the ultimate troll deck. Regardless, at least for now, if you want to kill your opponents with Battle Royale you're going to have to pay a heavy price. --------------------------------------------------------------- Banned and Restricted Update, March 6, 2023: Legacy Bannings
