--------------------------------------------------------------- Budget Magic: Banefire Elves -------

[width="1"] [MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] --------------------------------------------------------------- Budget Magic: Banefire Elves (Standard, Magic Arena) --------------------------------------------------------------- [Banefire%2belves 29a70c59 91a3 4454 95e1 f40cf1346367%2ejpg](2BElves-29a70c59-91a3-4454-95e1-f40cf1346367%2Ejpg) Does the addition of Gruul in Ravnica Allegiance mean that splashing into red rather than white is the right way to Elfball in Standard? Let's see![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Kaya, Orzhov Usurper](Allegiance/Kaya+Orzhov+Usurper#paper)[Nether Shadow](Edition/Nether+Shadow#paper)[Arclight Phoenix](of+Ravnica/Arclight+Phoenix#paper) This week Standard was mostly quiet as we wait for War of the Spark spoiler to officially begin with PAX East next weekend. The biggest winner was [Kaya, Orzhov Usurper](Allegiance/Kaya+Orzhov+Usurper#paper) (up 13% to $9) which has slowly been gaining traction in both Standard control decks and Modern, where it made the top eight of a GP last weekend in the main deck of Lantern Control. So far this has mostly been one-of type play, but if anyone figures out a deck that needs four copies, look out, [Kaya, Orzhov Usurper](Allegiance/Kaya+Orzhov+Usurper#paper) that could end up $20 in the blink of an eye. Three-mana planeswalkers often end up better than they are given credit for during spoiler season and it looks like [Kaya, Orzhov Usurper](Allegiance/Kaya+Orzhov+Usurper#paper) might not be an exception. Meanwhile, in the Modern card pool, we see some Commander staples on the rise. [Nether Shadow](Edition/Nether+Shadow#paper) jumped 128% this week to nearly $30. The two-drop doesn't show up in any tournament formats, but does work extremely well with [Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow](2018/Yuriko+the+Tigers+Shadow#paper) in Commander, offering a repeatable, unblockable creature to ninjitsu. Likewise, [Rise of the Dark Realms](2014+Core+Set/Rise+of+the+Dark+Realms#paper) (up 47% to $23) is one of the best finishers for any black deck in Commander and is surprisingly adept at dodging reprintings. Expect [Nether Shadow](Edition/Nether+Shadow#paper) to stabilize in coming weeks as the market corrects from the initial buyout, but [Rise of the Dark Realms](2014+Core+Set/Rise+of+the+Dark+Realms#paper) could keep creeping up until its eventually reprinting. Finally, if you've been thinking about picking up copies of [Arclight Phoenix](of+Ravnica/Arclight+Phoenix#paper) for Modern, Standard or even Legacy, wait! Thanks to being printed in a Challenger Deck that is overflowing with value, the price has to drop in the coming weeks. Considering that the deck also has [Niv-Mizzet, Parun](of+Ravnica/Niv-Mizzet+Parun#paper) and [Sulfur Falls](Falls#paper) to eat up some value, it's hard to imagine that [Arclight Phoenix](of+Ravnica/Arclight+Phoenix#paper) can stay above $20 and might end up closer to $15 as the Challenger Decks are being opened.
