[MTGGoldfish][Magic Newsletter] [width="1"] --------------------------------------------------------------- Budget Magic: $54 (16-Rare) Goyf & Beans | Standard --------------------------------------------------------------- 2BBeans-63fa4743-c18d-4e88-87a2-75e5858116a1%2Ejpg Does the printing of Huskburster Swarm in Bloomburrow mean it's finally time for Urborg Lhurgoyf to shine in Standard on a budget? Let's find out![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Urabrask's Forge](Will+Be+One/Urabrasks+Forge#paper) [Fountainport]( [Plague of Vermin](of+Vermin#paper) This week in Magic finance, the biggest winner comes from Standard where [Urabrask's Forge (extended)](Will+Be+One/Urabrasks+Forge-extended#paper) doubled up to over $12. The artifact has long been a sideboard card for aggro to fight against control but thanks to [Caretaker's Talent](Talent#paper), it has moved into the main deck of the Boros Token Control deck, which is driving the demand for the rare. The big news here is that paper Standard is increasingly showing signs of life. Toss in the announcement of the GP-like Showdown series starting next year which, according to Wizards, will heavily feature Standard, and it seems like being heavily-played in Standard is once again enough to drive the price of a card. Speaking of Standard, [Fountainport]( also doubled up this week to $5.50. I've been preaching the power of the card since the day it was spoiled, and its play rate is starting to back up the hype. If you look at the list of the most-played lands in Standard, you'll see the five basic lands, [Fabled Passage (extended)](Passage-extended#paper), and then [Fountainport](. I think the rare likely still has room to grow. It should be a Standard staple for the next three years and is already seeing some Pioneer play. As a colorless card it can go into any deck, so you might as well get some extra value out of your manabase. We've seen in the past that heavily-played lands can end up super expensive. Hitting $10 at some point during its life in Standard certainly isn't out of the question, and it could go even higher. Finally in Commander, the Shadowmoor rare [Plague of Vermin](of+Vermin#paper) gained 118% this week up to a massive $60. While this huge price jump is enabled by the fact that [Plague of Vermin](of+Vermin#paper) is nearly 20 years old and has never been reprinted, the catalyst for the spike was the printing of [Wick, the Whorled Mind](the+Whorled+Mind#paper) in Bloomburrow. Being able to dump all of your life into making Rat tokens can be a combo kill with Wick if you have enough life, growing the Snail token it makes large enough that you can sacrifice it to [Wick, the Whorled Mind](the+Whorled+Mind#paper)'s ability to burn the entire table out of the game. While [Plague of Vermin](of+Vermin#paper) is one of the best cards you can play in Wick, it doesn't really see play with any other commanders, which means once the Commander world moves on to Duskmourn in a few weeks, the price will likely start to slowly drop. Once it eventually gets reprinted, it should end at $5 or less. Assuming you don't need your copies to build Wick, I'd sell into the hype. --------------------------------------------------------------- Podcast 498: We Predict the Ban List and Foundations --------------------------------------------------------------- With Richard away Seth and Crim make predictions for next week's ban list update, discuss what they hope to come to Standard in foundatio...[Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Commander Clash Podcast 161: Commander Shark Tank --------------------------------------------------------------- We pitch to a panel of sharks in hopes of funding for our Commander ideas.[Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Single Scoop: Jaya Believers, It Might Be Our Time?! --------------------------------------------------------------- TheAsianAvenger double downed on Jaya, Fiery Negotiator being good eventually.
