A ton of powerful cards have been previewed, and Wizards hasn't been shy about noting the power of the cards in Modern and Commander. Let's find out on today's Budget Magic![Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive --------------------------------------------------------------- [Freestrider Lookout](of+Thunder+Junction/Freestrider+Lookout#paper) [Greenbelt Rampager](Revolt/Greenbelt+Rampager#paper) [Braid of Fire](of+Fire#paper) This week in the world of Magic finance, one of the biggest gainers was [Freestrider Lookout (planeswalker stamp)](of+Thunder+Junction/Freestrider+Lookout-planeswalker+stamp#paper) with the three-drop gaining a massive 161% up to nearly $5.00. While the crime ramper does see some Standard play, the biggest news is that it's taking off in older formats. In Pioneer it has found a home in Golgari Midrange, in Modern some [Cabal Coffers](Horizons+2/Cabal+Coffers#paper) builds are splashing into green to take advantage of its ramping power, and even Legacy Lands has shown interest in the Human Rogue. If [Freestrider Lookout (planeswalker stamp)](of+Thunder+Junction/Freestrider+Lookout-planeswalker+stamp#paper) actually emerges as a staple in an eternal format, it could keep climbing towards $10, although at this point it's too early to tell if [Freestrider Lookout (planeswalker stamp)](of+Thunder+Junction/Freestrider+Lookout-planeswalker+stamp#paper) is legit. Meanwhile in Modern, [Greenbelt Rampager](Revolt/Greenbelt+Rampager#paper) is on the rise, tripling up to $2.50 this week thanks to the new Modern Horizons 3 enchantment [Primal Prayers](Horizons+3/Primal+Prayers#paper). The Elephant offers an easy combo with the energy [Aluren](. Assuming you don't have an extra energy sitting around (outside of the two that [Primal Prayers](Horizons+3/Primal+Prayers#paper) produces), you can cast [Greenbelt Rampager](Revolt/Greenbelt+Rampager#paper) for one energy, it will bounce back to your hand since you won't have the two energy to keep it around, which will make another energy that you can use to cast [Greenbelt Rampager](Revolt/Greenbelt+Rampager#paper) again, giving you infinite enters and leaves the battlefield triggers. Toss in something like [Corpse Knight](of+the+Machine+Commander/Corpse+Knight#paper) and you'll kill your opponent, or [Essence Warden](Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth+Commander/Essence+Warden#paper) will offer infinite life. If the combo ends up being real in Modern, the sky is the limit for [Greenbelt Rampager](Revolt/Greenbelt+Rampager#paper). Finally, you might have noticed [Braid of Fire](Booster+Retail+Edition+Foils:Foil/Braid+of+Fire#paper) increasing recently. This week the enchantment gained another 29% up to $27.50, although just a few weeks ago it was as low as $15. This is because of another new Modern Horizons 3 card in [Ashling, Flame Dancer](Horizons+3/Ashling+Flame+Dancer#paper), which lets you keep your red mana through the end of steps and phases, which solves the biggest problem with [Braid of Fire](Booster+Retail+Edition+Foils:Foil/Braid+of+Fire#paper): needing to use the mana it makes during your upkeep. While [Braid of Fire](Booster+Retail+Edition+Foils:Foil/Braid+of+Fire#paper) does seem good, or at least fun, in an Ashling Commander deck, keep in mind that its current price is inflated by the lack of true reprints since it was released in Coldsnap nearly 20 years ago. While it was in a Secret Lair and showed up in Mystery Boosters and The List, these are all low-supply reprints. If it ever shows up in a proper set the price will likely crash hard since its applications are limited. --------------------------------------------------------------- Podcast 485: Are MagicCons Worth It? --------------------------------------------------------------- The crew discusses whether a new Modern Horizons 3 artifact can shake up the Modern meta, ponder if MagicCons are worth the price, break ...[Read more]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Are Target Mystery Boxes a Scam? --------------------------------------------------------------- There are new retail mystery boxes that sell for $35 and include five boosters, some promos and a random "game piece." Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
