The interview came on the heels of Harris’ historic week of campaigning in rural Georgia, where she was the [first general election presidential nominee]( to stump in the coastal city of Savannah since the 1990s. Meanwhile, former President Trump found himself under fire for potentially [violating federal law]( – and basic decency – by [conducting a photo-op]( in a section of Arlington National Cemetery where service members killed in Afghanistan and Iraq are buried. Altogether it’s been another rough week for Trump, who also sparked controversy for a series of new [sexist attacks]( on Harris. Then he managed to kick up outrage on the right for flip-flopping on [abortion and IVF]( after telling NBC News that he wants to have IVF treatments paid for by either the government or insurance companies and speaking out against [Florida’s six-week abortion ban]( (he later said he’d vote against the abortion rights amendment). As Trump’s September 18 [sentencing date]( in his hush money case looms, a federal grand jury this week returned a [superseding indictment]( in special counsel Jack Smith’s election interference case. The new grand jury charged Trump with the same four counts he faced in the earlier indictment, returned last August, but now [whittled down]( in light of the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling. Although Trump’s team is attempting to push the proceedings back beyond the November election, both sides are expected to appear before Judge Tanya Chutkan next week for [a Sept. 5 hearing]( to discuss what comes next.
