This victory is particularly meaningful for me because itâs the first advocacy campaign I launched after joining Mozilla in 2017. Hundreds of thousands of you joined our actions opposing the FCC's decision to scrap net neutrality at the federal level.1 Together we sent a powerful message that net neutrality is the foundation of the open internet. Mozilla also took up the issue in court. Without net neutrality, no one is guaranteed fair access to the internet and a small number of internet providers can block certain content online. Now that net neutrality has been restored at the federal level, it's important to remember that it didn't happen by chance â it happened thanks to many years of Mozilla supporters and a strong coalition of digital rights organizations engaging on this issue. This victory shows what is possible when we come together to shape the future of the internet. While this is an important step toward ensuring the internet remains open and accessible for all, our work is far from over. Mozilla relies on grassroots donations in order to sustain years-long advocacy and campaigning to reclaim the internet. If youâd like to make more victories like this possible in the future, we hope you'll consider making a donation today. [Can you make a $25 contribution to Mozilla today? Internet Service Providers (ISPs) took advantage of the lax rules in certain state2, even during COVID when people were completely reliant on the internet for health and safety information. Last year, when the FCC was preparing to take up the issue of net neutrality again, Mozilla submitted detailed comments on the proposed rules directly to the commission, to advocate for an open internet. The new order from the FCC, issued on April 25, reclassifies broadband internet as a “telecommunications service” and prevents ISPs from blocking, throttling, or paid prioritization of traffic. This action restores meaningful and enforceable FCC oversight and protection on the internet, and unlocks innovation, competition, and free expression online. The FCCâs decision reaffirms that the internet is â and should remain â a public resource, where companies cannot abuse their market power to the detriment of consumers, and where actors large and small operate on a level playing field. Thatâs exactly what our movement is all about: creating an internet where people are in control, irresponsible tech companies are held accountable, and our privacy is protected. Now it is up to all of us to continue building Mozillaâs movement so that we can ensure the internet is a force for good. Grassroots donations are crucial to sustaining Mozillaâs long-term advocacy and campaigning efforts. If we can rely on your support today, you will make a big difference for our movement.
