Amazon Ring has announced they are rethinking police partnerships, putting an end to the practice of allowing U.S. police forces to freely request video footage from Ring doorbells via the Neighbors app. This is a big step forward for millions of Ring users in the United States, as well as the tens of millions of us who appear in Ring recordings. Amazon Ring is finally beginning to close the door to fear and over-policing, especially among already marginalised communities. The Mozilla community has been fighting for this for years. Together, we demanded this change â in solidarity with racial justice and human rights advocates across the U.S. And thousands of people signed Mozilla’s petition calling on Amazon to immediately pause its partnerships with law enforcement.
