Far-right politicians like Ron DeSantis are championing draconian laws to ban books and the teaching

Far-right politicians like Ron DeSantis are championing draconian laws to ban books and the teaching of accurate American history in favor of upholding a homophobic and white supremacist vision of our nation. Dear MoveOn member, Far-right politicians like Ron DeSantis are championing draconian laws to ban books and the teaching of accurate American history in favor of upholding a homophobic and white supremacist vision of our nation. In response, MoveOn is launching a Banned Bookmobile, filling it with books that MAGA politicians have banned, and driving it to highly trafficked areas where we will give out the banned books—all for free! After an outpouring of support from MoveOn members, we're taking our campaign up a notch and adding an important new component to the Banned Bookmobile: voter registration. Everywhere we go—and at every stop we make—we will be making sure people have the information they need to register to vote and then we will work to ensure they cast their ballots against far-right Republicans in 2024. [Will you chip in $3 today to buy copies of banned books, pay for the Banned Bookmobile, and ensure we have the resources we need to talk with as many voters as possible about registering to vote? Our goal is to keep the Banned Bookmobile up and running from now until Election Day 2024—but we can do it only with your help.]( {NAME}, the Banned Bookmobile will offer readers some of the most frequently banned books in the nation, many of which are written by people of color or those who are LGBTQ+, and almost all of which teach about empathy, compassion, and accurate history. Titles we will carry include "The 1619 Project: Born on the Water," a children's picture book that confronts the horrors of American slavery in an age-appropriate manner and "Maus," which recounts one family's escape from a Nazi concentration camp. We will also carry the most banned book in the nation: "Gender Queer: A Memoir," a graphic novel about nonbinary author Maia Kobabe's journey toward self-discovery.1 And now, with your help, we are adding one more thing that the far right despises: making sure that people have the information they need to register to vote. For decades, the right wing has tried to make it harder to register to vote—especially for young people and people of color—because they know that when we turn out, the GOP loses. We need your help to take the Banned Bookmobile far and wide across the country, going to event after event, handing out loads of books and making sure voters are registered. [If you are able, will you chip in $3 today to power the Banned Bookmobile?]( Thanks for all you do. –David, Mana, Kelsey, Rahna, and the rest of the team Source: 1. "American Library Association Names 2022's Most Banned Books," Smithsonian Magazine, April 25, 2023 [ Want to support MoveOn's work? Since 2020, MoveOn has printed and given away more than 6,500,000 stickers … all for free! Sticker giveaways are a critical tool in our campaigning toolbox. They raise awareness about important issues, spark conversations between neighbors and friends, and mobilize people to take action on everything from protecting the post office to combating gun violence. While the stickers are free for MoveOn members, they aren't free to produce. Will you make a gift to help ensure MoveOn continues to design, print, and give away free stickers?
