The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter]( April 26, 2023 There are enough sexual misconduct allegations against former President Donald Trump to [fill a Wikipedia page](, but it wasn't until this week that Trump actually went on [trial]( for charges stemming from such an allegation. In 2019, writer E. Jean Carroll said that Trump had raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the mid-1990s. Trump has denied this allegation, calling Carroll a liar and claiming that she was "[not my type](." Now, Carroll is seeking damages for assault and defamation in a civil suit. Hoping to establish a [pattern of behavior]( for Trump, Carroll's attorneys have promised that the jury will also hear from two other women who say that Trump assaulted and kissed them against their will. âThree women, one pattern,â Shawn Crowley, one of Carroll's attorneys, [said]( in court yesterday, as my colleague Russ Choma reported. âPounce, kiss, grab, grope, donât wait. When youâre a star you can do anything you want. And when they speak up about what happened, attack, humiliate them, call them liars.â Even though the case deals directly with Trump's public statements disparaging Carroll, the former president has not been able to help himself from continuing to post about the case on social media. As Russ, who was inside the courthouse, [reported today](, the judge told Trump's attorneys that their client needs to stop posting about the case online. "Your client might be tampering with a potential new source of liability," the judge said, seeming to threaten that Trump could face further legal consequences if he doesn't stop. The trial is expected to continue into next week.
