Limited time to DOUBLE your impact.
MoJo Reader:Ă‚
I'm going to get right to the point on this one.
The next $20,000 in donations to Mother Jones, of up to $1,000 each, will be doubled as part of the nationwide NewsMatch campaign to strengthen nonprofit journalism. [Please make a tax-deductible, year-end gift today when it will be doubled and have twice the impact](.
And I'll be just as direct with you about something else.
Our annual December fundraising campaign is running a good bit behind where we need to be to hit our $600,000 goal, and it's going to take a huge surge to get us there (or as close to it as we can so we don't have to make hard decisions come January).
That's how December typically works, with around half of the donations flooding in during the final week of the year. But it's not for the faint of heart, and I hope you'll [take advantage of the dollar-for-dollar match and pitch in today, when your support will go twice as far](.Ă‚ Ă‚
I'm concerned about…a lot of things? Sure, there's the big gap we still need to raise in the next twelve days, but I've also been thinking about how you all are feeling right now. With the impeachment proceedings having exposed what feels like a broken political system, it can make you want to throw your hands up and tune it all out. I feel that way sometimes too often.
But here's what fills me with resolve at moments like this is: You, the community of Mother Jones readers. A few weeks ago, I [asked]( readers what journalism's mission should be in the era of Trump, and what Mother Jones should focus on. Here are a couple of the highlights from your fellow readers, and you can read more in my new column, "[Go After the Truth No Matter Who It Benefits](:"
“Journalism’s role is to research and present the truth, period. I trust MoJo. You go for it all when other publications get lazy or just don’t care about their readers—or have their own motives for delivering half-truths at best.”
“I expect ALL legitimate publications and news outlets to adhere to facts, and report it, but I expect MoJo to focus almost solely on holding the powerful accountable and to write about wrongs in order to right/correct those wrongs.”
“Hold the elites to account; dig for the truth, no matter how inconvenient or difficult; stop the horse race and false equivalency shit (excuse my language); dive deep into the politicians and who they get money from. Make me proud of my former profession.”
Those are not the voices of people who feel resigned. They are voices telling us to charge hard. And we want to charge hard. Now, we just need to [raise the money]( to do it.
Since our founding as a nonprofit in 1976, reader support has always been the spine that keeps Mother Jones strong. It allows us to go after stories that need to be told but that advertising revenue would never pay for, and that corporations or wealthy owners would not want printed. But I'll admit: It's a bit daunting to figure out how we're going to do everything we have to heading into 2020, especially if we can't make up some serious ground over the next week and a half.
[Please help us close our budget gap with a year-end gift today, when, thanks to the generous partners with NewsMatch, your donation will be doubled up to $20,000 total](.
Thanks for reading. Whether or not you can pitch today, I want you to know I'm glad you're with us.

P.S. If you've donated in the last several hours, thanks so much! Sometimes our systems are a little slow to catch up.
