The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Support our nonprofit journalism]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     September 17, 2024 Greetings from west-central New Jersey, where the first few notes of cooler weather appear to be settling in. I recently got my Covid booster, as well as the flu shot to prepare for the upcoming season. And sitting there in Walgreens, waiting for the nice pharmacist to jab my arm into oblivion, I couldn't help but recall a time when securing a Covid vaccine was not so easy. How about those pre-vaccine days? When systemic government failure, led by an [absolute idiot of a president]( wholly unprepared for this crisis, was a fact of daily American life. When, as the death toll mounted with terrifying speed, this idiot wondered if we should [inject disinfectant](. I have to admit that that period can feel incredibly distant. But apparently, millions of American voters appear to have [forgotten Trump's colossal mismanagement]( of the crisis. How can that be possible? David Corn [spoke with several memory experts]( about this particular amnesia, and how the collective limits of our memory ultimately benefit the former president in his bid to return to the White House. It's a fascinating and depressing read. But with the race this tight, keeping Trump's deadly leadership in the minds of voters is all the more crucial. —Inae Oh Advertisement [Children complete their homework under solar-powered lights from Heifer International]( [Top Story] [Top Story]( [A Georgia Woman Has Died After an Abortion Ban Delayed Lifesaving Care]( Amber Nicole Thurman’s death from an infection in 2022 is believed to be the first confirmed maternal fatality linked to post-Roe bans.
