The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday. [View in browser]( [Support our nonprofit journalism]( [Mother Jones Daily Newsletter](     June 27, 2024 Will CNN's new rules for tonight's debate be enough to restrain the excesses of former president Donald Trump? Why did he claim that President Joe Biden will receive a "[shot in the ass](" ahead of their rematch? Despite my dread for the event, I decided to put on my Big Girl Pants and seek out expert counsel on what to expect from the first presidential debate and how Biden could potentially out-maneuver the all-but-certain stream of lies coming out of his opponent's mouth. This led me to a [wonderful conversation with Will Baker](, director of NYU's Global Debate Fund, wherein he shared some typical tips he offers debaters—they do not include using cocaine—as well as some insights into those [absurd drug claims Trump]( is maliciously throwing around. My favorite moment, one that made me literally gasp, was Baker's predictions for how Trump could circumvent tonight's mic-muting rules.
